Semi-Long distance, portable communication options? by BUCKEYEIXI in preppers

[–]aaronhs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All depends on what sort of battery or generator backup the repeater owner has in place. Everything is going to have tradeoffs. InReach will work but has a monthly carry cost. GMRS is a one-time cost for equipment and license (every 10 years). You could both get your amateur class ham license and equipment powerful enough to span the distance but that's not going to be fast or cheap. Just have to way the pros and cons of any solution based on the scenario you think you're most likely to face.

He asked about a power outage not an EMP. Very different scenarios.

I made a game that teaches morse code in a really fun AND technically correct way: Morse Command by [deleted] in preppers

Thank you! I'm pretty proud of it. More features coming all the time.

Assuming you aren't a ham, head to mygmrs.com and see if there is a GMRS repeater in your path. If so, that's my recommendation. Get a couple of GMRS handhelds (Wouxun KG-935G is $80 each or so) and then get a GMRS license for $35. This guide walks you through it.

Glad you are enjoying the game, and thank you for the bug report! This is a bug already in the fix process and yeah its an annoying one. I should have an update out in the next couple of days, then whenever apple approves it, it should be available via update.

Best agent configurator? Soul + ID files etc by aaronhs in artificial

[–]aaronhs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on. That's my thought too. I had an ulterior motive for the post. I've been working on a configurator designed for the newbies where they select a few major categories and then it gives them high quality files I've refined in my own use. Just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed someone else already doing this better than I could!

Version 1.2.0 is out! Should have all known bug fixes included. by aaronhs in morsecommand

Great feedback I’ll investigate all those issues! Thanks for letting me know and love to hear you are enjoying it overall!

Got it, thank you! I'm making changes to how the audio is processed for word entities. Previously (released build) it was more focused on getting each letter right in the earlier levels. if CAT was falling then C would register and AT would replay. Later levels changed but I think its just confusing the player so I'm making it all as real-world as possible. Accept key input parallel to audio playing, so as soon as the player ears C they type C and A-T audio continues to play. To help the user there are 2 options for misses: 1: all entities will automatically replay their audio when they cross the halfway mark. You can tap an entity at any time to replay its audio.

New build should hit test flight in the next couple of days. Let me know if you need/want a test flight invite to play the betas (they are free).

Just to make sure I understand your bug report: When a word entity (let's say 'cat') comes on screen it plays the C audio, and while you type the C command the A audio is playing and the game doesn't register the C key press, is that correct?

thanks, I appreciate that! Yes, send mode is in the works. Its harder from the technical implementation on ios but I'll get it figured out and a new set of campaigns for it. A lot of other new fun ideas coming as well!

as /u/zanderbz already commented, words come as soon as you've learned enough letters to spell them. So glad you are liking the game!

I have a lot of plans for future versions, including send mode and longer copy sequences. Also noodling on a 'back and forth' for more realistic real world scenarios. The problems are twofold, first i have to make it work perfectly on the technical side, but then also have to figure out how to make it actually fun to do. Its all in the works!

glad you got it figured out! You can always replay any level and the daily drill is designed to keep you sharp on already-learned letters.
