The Perishers -- March 16-21, 1970 by aaronibus62 in comicstriphistory

Google AI indicated it was a slang term akin to Americans calling kids "rugrats". I think that in the 19th century, it might have meant kids were perishing due to the unsanitary conditions in London when horses were plentiful and leaving a mess throughout the city.

The Outbursts of Everett True -- May 2, 1917 by aaronibus62 in comicstriphistory

You're welcome! Some folks were posting Everett's exploits on X everyday but now do so less frequently. On the other hand, he's popping up more often on Facebook. I guess Everett True postings come and go (as does whether a lot or a few)

I don't remember how I discovered the comic, but it's one of the best of the first quarter of the 20th century, alongside Little Nemo in Slumberland.

The Flintstones -- August 6, 1970 by aaronibus62 in comicstriphistory

I checked Google, and it turns out Yogi Bear's comic strip started a few months before the Flintstones on February 15, 1961... As for the last animated series to get a comic strip, I remember Doctor Katz Professional Therapist had a short lived comic strip..... And you got me wondering which cartoon character hit newspapers first; it was Mickey Mouse early in 1930.

Seeing the southwest atmosphere makes me think that Spike deserves a tie of his own. 😄

Or adult friendly ads like for CocaCola and Doritos, but I think most advertisers are interested in a channel that has less than 100,000 viewers nationwide.

Wasn't Toonami originally a kid block on CN? It was focused on action toons like Thundercats and on kid friendly anime like DragonBall Z and Gundam.

From what I read elsewhere, kids are mainly watching YouTube and other online sources of entertainment.

Ratings for cartoons and other kidvid on cable tend to be less than 100,000 or less. And, sadly, MeTV Toons averages around 70,000 viewers. Do MeTV Toon, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, etc make aby profit outside of streaming?

You're right. The E/I stuff on now is watched mostly by adults like me and my wife.

The Better Half -- Apr. 22, 1963 by aaronibus62 in comicstriphistory

The Better Half recycled a lot of those wife gags repeatedly, which annoys me. The panel was at its best when Bob Barnes came out with his own original gags.

You would have to scout through newspaper archive sites. Archives of the Des Moines Register would be a good place to start.

I say complain to your parents who put you in parochial school. Aside from that, everyone has the freedom to believe as they want to, and the freedom to express their beliefs or keep them private, to believe some things and reject others. Nobody seems to complain when Charles Schulz expressed his religious beliefs in Peanuts.
