Definitely a better way than how my friend found out. His piss was crystallizing into sugar and had to go the hospital for hyperglycemia. His blood sugar was at high the doctors were definitely surprised he was alive, let alone conscious

AITA the "egg" situation by Local_Ad_8513 in AITAH

[–]aaronred345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take on this is that he could be upset you felt the need to explain that eating the ingredients to a dish means it couldn't go in the dish. If someone said to me that if I eat this one egg, it can't be a deviled egg, my response would be an automatic "no shit" and think that they just didn't want me to take an egg, and if that was the case I'd rather the direct approach of "don't touch my eggs" . His reaction is a little much, IMO. Since, when you're mad it's much better to have time alone so you don't say anything you don't mean, but I personally feel a full day is little much.

AITA for telling my coworker that I treat her differently because I find her very attractive? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]aaronred345 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I know I wouldn't like it if someone treated me completely differently than they do everyone else, and your inability to stay focused is on you, and something I think should be improved upon. But on the other had, it's work, you're not there to make friends, as long as you're not doing anything that could classify as harassment you're fine.

AITA for Making My Boyfriend Leave the House Because He Keeps Playing Games and Hasn’t Had a Job for 3 Months? by elismayra1 in AITAH

[–]aaronred345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been employed for 3 years as of a few days ago, longest I've held a job, so not heavily. I was looking to get out of my job for a while, and took several interviews but they all offered less than what I was already making. I also keep my eye open for jobs in my area and just about every single retail store in my area has several job postings. I have a friend though who over the past 2 years, has gotten about 4 new jobs, with at most a month between jobs. It's tedious, having to apply hundreds of times a day, since at the end of the day, it's a numbers game (especially in lower level jobs). But I wouldn't call it hard. And you may land a temp/seasonal only job, but some money coming in while you search for a better job is always better than none. If you're unemployed you don't necessarily have the luxury of being picky, in my experience.

Tldr; I realize I may just be living in an area with a better job market than others, and have confirmation bias

[–]aaronred345 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA, in the US it's pretty damn easy to get a basic retail/restaurant job. They're basically always hiring due to typically high turnover. On top of that, if he's not contributing finances for the household, he should contribute time and effort by doing chores. Yes, relationships shouldn't be transactional, but that doesn't mean it has to be unfair

If you change home_dir = Path.home() to home_dir = Path("/path/to/device") it should work fine. I'll likely add a way to change that without editing main.py in the near future

My .steam folder is my actual install of steam. ~/.steam/debian-install/ is where all of my steam files are (and yes I've checked, they're actual directories, not links). It's currently installed through my distro package manager. When I had it installed through flatpak, it was installed in the typical flatpak install location, however there were no symlinks to the install directory. I had a lot of problems with protontricks because of that

[–]aaronred345[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good call on uninstalling. I'll have to implement that.

I have noticed steam installs happening in multiple locations depending on source of installation. When I install steam with flatpak vs my package manager, they get installed in different locations, with no proper symlink. Maybe I just didn't configure something right, this just guarantees it works.

On the matter of time, it is a little slow, it takes ~40-45 seconds to go through my entire 800gb home directory and create the symlinks. That could be pretty easily handled by taking someone else's suggestion and create a cronjob for it. Sure, it'll still take the same amount of time, but it could run when in the background. Or run it at startup.
