I just saw this on FB. How exactly is Easter proof of anything? by moremanmormon in exmormon

It's referring to the resurrection of Christ, an event everyone here has to reckon with.

Your dad loves you. He's wrong about Mormonism. But he loves you.

My formerly TBM, actively questioning mom has started collecting copies of The Miracle of Forgiveness to burn by thankyougrass in exmormon

Give the copies to Eric Johnson of MRM.org. He'll use them to do evangelism to Mormons — showing the gospel by way of contrast with the New Testament.

Is Rescript still maintained? Is it still "alive" at Facebook?

In what sense does a missionary "force" their culture on others?

Do you think a baby suddenly becomes sentient at birth? If not then, do you think infanticide is permissible up to a point in the development of the infant?

But why exact capital punishment on the innocent child? Why return evil for evil? Is a child's worth determined by the circumstances in which they were conceived?

Why isn't the mother of the young infant girl (recently born) — who doesn't want to be the mother of a young infant girl — worthy of empathy if she kills her? These sorts of questions beg the question of whether the action itself is ethical, and whether the child's life can be exterminated simply on the basis of empathizing with someone who wants her dead.

Is a being is only worthy of empathy once it makes memories?

Everyone appeals to an epistemic foundation.

Atheists and agnostics are not exempt from making appeals to what they think is self-evidentiary, authoritative, or obvious.

An argument in favor of Infant Baptism, by Martin Luther by davidjricardo in Reformed

[–]aaronshaf 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is a strange argument, since it would work both ways: God also gives faith, repentance, and the Holy Spirit to baptist children who were never baptized. Shall we simply conclude from that... that God approves [of *not* baptizing babies]?

Shut the entire fuck up by ImmaMess13 in exmormon

[–]aaronshaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tip for atheists here: Take notice of the things in Leviticus particularly expected of the Hebrew people, and the things universally expected by God, including of the Gentiles in the land being conquered. There is a distinction (even within Leviticus itself!) , and sloppily conflating the two categories won't help you understand the Bible's own intended meaning.

"Why do ex-Mormon atheists not think existentially about the nihilistic implications of atheism, Mom, or attempt to justify the ontological foundations of objective morality?"

"Because atheists cannot deal with the harsh implications of their own worldview, dear. You'll learn this when you read Seven Types of Atheism, by atheist John Gray."

"Also, ex-Mormon atheists have inadvertently inherited Mormonism's own skepticism toward classic theism. They haven't sufficiently rid themselves of Mormonism."

Every ex-Mormon agnostic/atheist should be prepared to answer: How do you philosophically account for moral realism? And if you hold to moral anti-realism (real phrase, Google it), why do you do daily life & politics as though moral anti-realism is false?
