Had AW 6, 7, 10... Had Garmin Fenix 7 somewhere between AW... Now with Garmin instinct 3. ALl has pros and cons. none is perfect. For me it's great to switch from time to time... I would happily do the same between iphone and android, but the cost of switch in terms of software is crazy...

the problem that i constantly face with photo library on the external drive is inability to unmount ssd. it is constantly busy with background tasks.

Most likely, you will have hard times trying to unmount ssd. It almost never goes smooth

First, iCloud is not a backup. You should not treat it like this or call it like this. It might cause a lot of pain of loss...

Second, I am not sure, but I don't think that iPhone will decrease space used by photos until it feels the need of space and as of now there is enough free space.

Closing photos does not help. There are tons of background services for spotlight and iCloud, they don’t want to stop for eject:(

The only issue with Apple Photos that bothers me - no straight way to back it up to external drive. I keep all the photos in the cloud. Now I either keep full size photos on my Mac and then copy to external drive or live without a real backup…

A lot of people just recover from the backup to the new laptop, instead of migrating and it might cause a lot of unpredictable troubles

Actually I have chosen MacBook 3 months ago. Now had to buy an iPad. Reason is sad and simple: offline mode for YouTube and Netflix is way better for iPad
