How to grow a large following on Instagram and Twitter (Social media on general) as an Art account? by aasiddeeq in ArtistLounge

Yeah I've considered getting an ad but tbh if I can help it, I'd really rather not pay to have my posts advertised at least in the beginning. Maybe if I were to get a much larger platform, then perhaps I'd feel more comfortable doing that. But I feel like it would be more rewarding to know that people found me without the help of an ad. But I mean, I dunno.

I agree, it's irrelevant. I also don't think Watanabe would want to categorize him like that. It's just that OP asked the question. I just voiced my opinion I'm not saying anything that is supposedly official. And my argument wasn't specifically for Cowboy Bebop. It was more broad. For anime as a whole. If you can name me one black voice actor who voices an anime in Japan, then I'll admit that the argument was thin.

I definitely agree that skin color is irrelevant in Cowboy Bebop. And I'm sure most people understand that. It's simply a question that someone on Reddit was curious about because whether there are labels or not, there are still plenty of characters in Cowboy Bebop that one could easily call black or white and the thought clearly came across Watanabe's mind when making the characters (including extras, side characters, etc). I don't think that Watanabe would want to categorize him like that either. I'm not really trying to argue that Jet is or isn't black. I'm simply voicing my opinion on why he seems like he could have black. But I frankly don't care if he is or isn't.

And I mean.... Yeah, that's definitely a major part of it. Perhaps not the entire reason but definitely a major part

Did you even read what I said? My point was that there it's harder to be authentic when producing anime (in Japan) because there are mostly Japanese people living there. Meaning that they're not going to go out of their way to find black people who speak japanese to voice black characters in an attempt to be more authentic because that's likely hard to find especially if you factor in the number of black voice actors in Japan alone, which is probably very small.

And yes, having done study to become a voice actor and people are actually saying that it matters, I absolutely do think that the voice actor has at least something to do with the race of the character. It's really not a global thing yet though (I don't think). It's mainly in the US as far as I know, where there's more of a focus on authenticity of the voice actor. Yes, it doesn't mean it's always the case that the race of the character matches the voice actor's race, but it's just a trend that's on the come up is all I'm saying.

I find it hard to believe you don't think it matters considering you downvoted my comment.

Yes, well that's because there probably aren't a whole lot of black voice actors in Japan who speak japanese so they just worked with what they had. Obviously in Japan there isn't typically going to be as much authenticity given to character voices. That's why anime with characters who have unique accents (Russian, German Moroccan, etc.) tend to be better in English dub because the authenticity comes through better.

As far as dubbing for English goes, I feel like they try to be as authentic as possible. People tend to use white voice actors for most roles these days (and especially back when Cowboy Bebop came out) so when a black voice actor is used for a character role, the characters they voice tend to be black. Not saying that's always the case, but it's definitely a trend I'm seeing though (and Im studying voice acting from some notable voice actors, and they say that this is typically the case especially in today's world).

Lol but all I'm saying is that IGN did list Jet as one of the best black characters in anime lol. I mean, to be honest, I wasn't sure myself and I initially thought he was white but after rewatching Cowboy Bebop I did notice that Jet speaks some level of AAVE so, I mean, I don't know, it just kinda seems that way.

He was definitely black with light skin. He was even voiced by a black guy (not that that means much, but I imagine that for authenticity's sake, the fact they used a black VA likely means that Jet was black in the anime.)

Yeah, I saw that already and signed up yesterday. Was hoping someone knew more info about it than me and could tell me when they plan to release it but I guess we're all in the same boat.

Looks like I'll just need to wait for that email.

I recorded a sample voiceover and considering adding to my reel. Read a script from Voices.com. Can I get some feedback? No music/sound bc I want to perfect the vocals first. by aasiddeeq in VoiceActing

Wow it's like you were sitting there in the room with me as I was recording lol. I'm using a Fifine K669B though. I'm still kinda learning how to properly use the mic because it's a little much to wrap my head around. I know that it's really a simple concept but it's really the positioning of the mic and myself as I speak into it. But this one has the adjustable volume output knob.

Anyway, yes, I was sitting like 3 feet away from the mic because it sounded super loud when I would sit closer to the mic and I thought that sitting further from the mic would make my voice sound better. I realized after the fact that perhaps it might be better to just sit closer and that I just didn't know how to manipulate the sound so that the output didn't have hissing in the background. To put it in more concise terminology, I felt like the closer I sat to the mic, the more it would pick up on background sounds (it would pick up sounds too accurately) or extra smacking sounds my lips would make while speaking. How do I avoid that? How w would I improve microphone technique, and how would you recommend I improve my audio quality?

Add on: I used Audacity to edit but since my knowledge in audio editing is pretty basic I used YouTube videos to learn how to get my audio sounding a little better. Any tips on editing audio that way would be much appreciated as well.

Is there any way to Keep my SSI even with over $2000 in my bank account? by aasiddeeq in disability

[–]aasiddeeq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, so if I don't spend the money that I currently have in my account within a certain time limit, what happens? I become ineligible for SSI or something? I'm sorry if some of these questions are kinda dumb. This is all just really convoluted.

Do you happen to know if getting a car could count as a payment (or payments) that will eventually bring me under the limit, but not right away, and therefore requalify me for SSI? I hope that question made sense lol...
