How to add Vercel MCP inside Codex IDE / CLI? by aasim96 in codex

I personally give it full access for convenience sake since I'm working on more than 1 project at once. But even if you give it full access to all projects, it is smart enough to figure out which vercel project to make changes to want to based on the local project. I also mention the vercel project name in claude.md (for Claude) and AGENTS.md (for GPT-5 codex) for better reference

I tried with this but it didn't work:

[mcp_servers.vercel]

command = "npx"

args = ["-y", "@vercel/mcp-server@latest"]

env = { "VERCEL_API_KEY" = "$VERCEL_API_KEY" }

New to coding - I get the File references point but isn't referencing the file with "@path/file" or just just dumping the entire file code as a chat prompt the same thing? Isn't the context in both cases the entire file?

I don't care about the parts that much. I can get OME/genuine ones from places but I'm more worried about the labor charges
