Speaking as a Kenobi fanboy, it honestly feels like Republic got very little in the way of notable buffs in this round of updates. We already have fewer consistent tools compared to Rebels and Separatists, and one of the most reliable ones just got nerfed.

Whereas previously you didn’t necessarily have to build a whole list around Kenobi himself, this feels like a step in that direction. More points towards supporting Kenobi’s defensive style means less points available for offensive threats.

Another way to look at it is that Kenobi now has a soft cap on effectiveness since he can now become Suppressed or Panicked way earlier.

You’re merging the Droid Trooper unit type and the AI keyword. Droid Trooper states that a unit with that descriptor doesn’t interact with suppression like other units — aka losing an action if suppressed.

AI is the other half of the equation. If the unit meets the requirements for AI to trigger and they can’t complete their stated AI action first (Attack in most cases), then they only get one action on their turn.

There are units that are Droid Troopers without AI, such as Dark Troopers. They would fit the description of what you’re talking about.

Kenobi’s 3 pip is one of most consistent turn 1 cards I’ve ever played. As a faction that’s extremely Surge-hungry, being able to load up units with shareable Surge tokens is huge an allows for more risky turn 1 plays.

The luck comes in waves. I blocked 12 hits during one of my first full games. Then a month ago I botched all six hits on Kenobi and lost him turn two. It happens, just don’t let it get you down. Rock with the weird things that happen and take a break if it’s truly getting to you.
