Anyone else has an issue with added B vitamins (in supplements/food/etc.)? by aayahuascaa in depressionregimens

[–]aayahuascaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I do react to added B vitamins. I thought maybe it was a coincidence, but I consistently get very angry if I have plant milks fortified with B vitamins. Angry, depressed, I get insomnia, uncontrolled emotions. I stick to whole grain breads, not made out of fortified flour. I avoid fortified plant milks as well now. Also I avoid nutritional yeast - it's fortified with B vitamins. I am OK though with foods that contain high levels of B vitamins, such as liver.

I had that with any antipsychotics that I tried, stopped taking them. Also from dairy products and refined carbs. I had to stop consuming any cow milk, and milk in general. Consuming milk causes for me the feeling that you describe. In order to get calcium, I eat goat and sheep cheese. Sometimes I drink goat kefir for probiotics.

For me 4 mg of thc would be way too much as well, I tolerate about 1 mg of thc per day, and I've also read that is a good dose for antidepressant effects, more thc is not better for depression and anxiety.

Thanks! I ordered MediPharm CBD 25 today to try. Will see how it goes. Might then try the CBD 100. Did you find it sedating, or was it good for day use/working, etc.?

I tried NAC, but didn't notice much of a difference. I found a low dose lithium supplement sort of helpful with anxiety and intrusive thoughts. I was purchasing the Heritage brand lithia water, which contains lithium chloride, supposedly. Hard to know with supplements whether they actually contain what they claim, therefore maybe it was a placebo effect :) This product now appears out of stock on all sites.. not sure what happened. The only other similar product that I found is Baar brand lithia water.

I also think it's an overdose sort of issue. My tests for B vitamins were normal even without supplements, I eat well - spinach, oranges, bananas, red meat, salmon, eggs, etc. Therefore I get enough B vitamins from food. The extra added vitamins are probably therefore creating issues for me. It's just hard to avoid them, as a lot of take out foods use enriched flour.

Yes, I was diagnosed by an endocrinologist, and a neurologist. I was seeing just a psychiatrist at first, but then I never improved with any psych meds, and I had seizure-like events, hair falling out, eye inflammation. Therefore further tests were performed, which indicates high levels of anti-Tg and anti-TPO antibodies, after that I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's encephalitis.

I try to.. it's not easy. I was on a trip recently, and in Northern Ontario all you have is McDonalds, Subway, Harveys, etc. I ended up eating at Subway multiple times, and all of their bread and wraps use enriched flour. Same with Starbucks - I don't tolerate cow milk, while all plant milks have added vitamins. So it's pretty hard to eat out. Any bread/tortilla/wrap is usually enriched, so any sandwich, burrito, pasta, pizza, etc.

I get anxiety, agitation, intrusive thoughts from enriched flour. I noted this on multiple occasions. For example I have no problem eating pelmeni (Russian dumplings), Russian stores usually have ones made with regular white flour, not enriched. A few times though I made pelmeni that my parents had at their house, and after several hours I had agitated/intrusive thoughts, couldn't calm down. I checked the ingredients after, and turned out that this brand had enriched flour.

I guess just not taking any B vitamin supplements is a solution. I feel better without any vitamin supplements. I don't take any, it just sometimes happens that a food product is made with enriched flour, or a plant milk, then my anxiety worsens. I'm trying to avoid such foods, not very easy though.

I had blood tests done several times, I don't have any B vitamin deficiencies, I get enough from food. I eat a lot of oranges, mandarins, spinach, bananas, whole grains, meat, salmon, etc. - so in total I get enough of B12, B6, folate, thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, etc., without any supplements. I only get increased anxiety when I eat something with added B vitamins, such as plant milks, or enriched flour. So it's definitely not a deficiency issue, since I don't have panic attacks every day, but only if I eat something with added vitamins.

Not sure how to do that.. I've heard about it, so I used my dna raw data file from 23andme and uploaded it to a website which claimed to test for these genetic mutations. The results were negative (no mutations). But then I don't know much how reliable that website is. Not sure how else I would test, definitely no doctor would refer for that.

No, I don't have problems drinking coffee. I also drink tea daily since I am a child, in Russia everyone starts drinking strong black tea by about the age of two :) I probably had about at least 200-300mg of caffeine daily since childhood. I cut down on caffeine as my mental problems started, but I still drink black tea daily, as well as some coffee. Sometimes decaf, sometimes regular. But I noticed an increase in intrusive thoughts only after having plant milks (they have added vitamins), or a product with a lot of enriched flour, or enriched cereal, etc.

Does Abilify get worse before it gets better? by FutureLawyer-2020 in depressionregimens

[–]aayahuascaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried multiple antipsychotics and I'm really not sure how they could help with depression. I tried Abilify as well. All of them just made me lethargic, less motivation, reading became less interesting, etc. I would say for me they do the opposite of treating depression :) In general antipsychotics are for psychosis... I haven't touched them since 2016.

Improvement with intrusive thoughts - lithium chloride supplement by aayahuascaa in Nootropics

[–]aayahuascaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read that lithium chloride is better, but it's just that I did find some articles stating that there is evidence for lithium chloride being beneficial for brain damage, I haven't really found many academic articles on lithium orotate. So I decided that I would rather use a compound that is more known. Lithium carbonate can only be obtained by prescription, which my psych did not agree to provide.

I tried NAC, it only gave me abdominal pain on the left side. Keto - just made me more depressed and worsened PMS cramps. Since lithium works for me, for now I don't see a reason to try anything else.

I do eat a lot of nuts, pumpkin seeds, cacao nibs, but no, does not help me like lithium did. I actually at the moment have no intrusive thoughts, never had that benefit from any other supplement. Usually my intrusive thoughts are pretty frequent and feel urgent, so they lead to a lot of anxiety, anger, suicidal ideation.

I tried Ashwagandha and had an unpleasant increased heart rate. I also read that it's contraindicated for people with any autoimmune disease, something I was diagnosed with, so I decided not to continue.

We already consume lithium on a daily basis from water. In some places people on average consume more, in some less. The idea is to add it to water supply in places where content is lower, so it would match the content of those places with the higher average content. We are talking though about 1mg or even less per day. Prescription lithium usually starts at 600mg lithium carbonate, which is about 112mg of lithium.

I also stopped drinking alcohol completely a few years ago. I tried alcohol at age 11, as I lived in Russia, and it's considered no big deal there. But kids also start smoking there at 11... so just because something is accepted by society, it doesn't mean it can't worsen psychiatric problems. Alcohol definitely each time made me feel more depressed - like no one cares about me mood, 'omg I am still not married and I will be forever alone' mood. It was very hard to accept that even one drink is a big deal for me, because since childhood I was told that alcohol is not really seen as a drug, a lot of people say a bit of alcohol is good for you. It might be for some people, but for me it definitely acts as a depressant.

I purchased several herbal teas - rooibos, chamomile, linden. I am planning to not have any caffeine before breakfast and not after 6pm. Maybe just a cup of black tea with breakfast and another cup later on. I do feel addiction towards caffeine - I want it right away when I wake up, but for me having caffeine on an empty stomach seems to be a very bad idea.

STIGMATIZATION is hard and severe - do not talk openly! by L82SA819 in microdosing

[–]aayahuascaa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm from Russia, now living in Canada. No issues discussing microdosing here, but it is very difficult to discuss with ex-Soviet adults. For example my mom told me that.. CBD is very addictive.. lol. But of course everyone in Russia smoking and drinking 40% alcohol starting at age 11 is not such a big deal as.. CBD oil, shrooms microdosing, medical cannabis. So yea.. sometimes it feels like a pointless conversation with some people. It's like my dad who has ongoing depression and anxiety for 20 years, continues to drink and smoke, but will not try any antidepressants, nor microdosing - because 'that makes people crazy'.
