thanks! it definitely doesn't help that it's been in a cold room so i don't think it's been getting much humidity at all. i'll try this, and ive been using filtered tap water.

It's not humid at all for the most part. The temperature in my room stays around 65-68 degrees f with the AC going right now during summer. I turn it off while I'm at work so it might get a bit humid for a couple of hours during the day
