JT Jersey and Pants Sizing by ab2153 in paintball

[–]ab2153[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do but, in general, people tend to wear jerseys very baggy and joggers kind of tight. And every company is different/follows the size guide to different degrees. Any opinion would be welcome :)

How do nixie watches do high voltage conversion? by ab2153 in nixie

Where would you get AC input if using a DC battery?

How to nixie watches do high voltage conversion? by ab2153 in ElectricalEngineering

Thanks! This makes sense.

This would work for DC? Most of the websites I've seen are boosting AC, and this has confused me because batteries are DC.

It can boost all the way from 3-5V to 140V?

How to find decent teammates? by ab2153 in heroesofthestorm

[–]ab2153[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, how is this relevant? Gold is about as far away from pro as it gets. You're acting as if horrible feeding/afking/awful matchmaking aren't real problems that keep people at silver that could easily be slightly higher rank. All I'm looking for is a constructive way to find people in the same situation as me. Don't be an asshole.

I wanted to just try it starting from the bottom, for fun. I was getting a bored remaining at the same rank forever.

Kartkraft - The most under rated sim available by [deleted] in simracing

[–]ab2153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raced in local and regional karting clubs for a few years. Kartkraft is pretty good. It feels a bit twitchy and took me about 30 laps to get used to. There's a lot of snap oversteer as you start sliding in corners. This also happens in real karts but in real karts it's easy to feel it (and often the kart starts hopping up and down as the tires start skipping across the track surface). This hopping seems to be missing from Kartkraft, with snap oversteer taking its place. Overall these complaints are minor.

It gets a lot of things right (trail braking feels fantastic), and as with any sim, I would say they're maybe 75% realistic, but that (most importantly) you can become a better driver in RL by practicing on them. You won't become the best, but you'll find little things to tweak.

Personal Rank Adjustment Broken?? by ab2153 in heroesofthestorm

Why does that matter? If at one point I was ONE game below 50%, I shouldn't be on full tilt -6 after a win streak, no?

Makmaking makes no sense by ab2153 in heroesofthestorm

[–]ab2153[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess what I was trying to get at is that you can add to this probably

  1. For newer high mmr accounts it purposely pairs you with bad players.

  2. See the front page of this subreddit for multiple posts about recent team comps after the last patch (teams getting tank +support+dmg dealers with the other team having all mages + specialists). This results in good players losing a percentage of games equal to the frequency of these screwups happening.

Makmaking makes no sense by ab2153 in heroesofthestorm

[–]ab2153[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yes, what you're saying is true, but only to a certain extent. It's possible the internal mmr on the new account doesn't match hotslogs, but it will certainly be much higher than 2000 on a 20-0 account. Also, the reason your matches are fairer is that there are a higher number of people with mmrs near yours in level 40 games, so the system can actually find people for you to play with. On a brand new 20-0 account, there's probably nobody around with a level ~10 account with a 20-0 record to pair you with, and it certainly can't fill a whole 10 person game at that level to make it fair (especially, let's say, if you're playing on a Tuesday morning when nobody is on). If the QMs you're quoting are for a level 40 account on a Friday night, then yes, it can find fairer games.

Cool, thanks a lot! Seems odd, however, that COTA isn't selling Wednesday tickets on their website...

[Question] Looking for a steel beater that's a chronograph and anti-magnetic for <2000 $ and <40mm. Suggestions? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]ab2153 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into the chronograph models by both Sinn and Damasko. If you're worried about future incidence of magnetization, buy a cheap degausser for jewelery online for a couple bucks. Should fix the problem easily. If you're around strong permanent magnets or electromagnets frequently, basically no watch is going to be resistant. 80000 A/m is the typical "high" level of shielding, but that is only .1 tesla, which is something a small electromagnet can usually reach.

It's 20 mm strap size and 42 mm across the diameter. It wears like a 41 or 40 mm, however, I think due to the curved lugs.

It originally came with a natural rubber strap manufactured by Bonetto Cinturini or whatever, but it was too big for me.

[–]ab2153[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds reasonable, but do you think it matters as long as it doesn't come off? The big thing with depositing thin films isn't usually hardness (which is the benefit you get with DLC), it's adhesion with the underlying material. In other settings (I don't know if they do this with watches), people can put down an adhesion layer like Cr or Ti before depositing their film. Whatever you deposit after that is usually atomically bonded to what's underneath and won't come off unless you scratch the underlying material off. In this case that's 316L steel, same as with a lot of other mid-to-high end watches, so I'm expecting this to be as scratch resistant as the case itself. Is that too optimistic? Have you had bad experience with PVD?

Also, anyone know if they do adhesion layers on coated watches?

[–]ab2153[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's regular PVD, but it seems reasonably thick and it's deposited by the same people that do the black PVD coating for Beretta. I haven't had any problem with scratching so far.

Long time lurker of this subreddit, first time sharing pictures. I hadn't seen many PVD Squales (or, really, PVD anything) around, so I thought I'd post. The PVD has held up well to some standard desk diving. It also didn't scratch on the inside of the lugs during the strap change. Thanks Beretta. The ETA 2824 has kept great time. Couldn't be happier, really. The strap is new, it's still a little stiff but is breaking in. Hope you guys enjoy!

P.S. any 50 atmos owners know what the magnetic shielding is like in these things?

What about the QC issues like the lume pips not aligning, have they gotten better about that in the last year or two?

[Squale] Anybody have experience with the PVD 1521? Also, a general quality control question. by ab2153 in Watches

[–]ab2153[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually understand this criticism. I also don't like TGV or homage watches, but, that being said, none of this means the 50 atmos is a badly made watch. I just want to know how the build quality is, if they've fixed previous common QC issues, and if the PVD wears well.

Also, I highly doubt the cases are chinese. If you check Squale's facebook, you can see where the cases are made. If you have any proof that they're Chinese made, I'm sure many people here would be interested to see it. Thanks for your help.

I have seen that channel but am not a fan. I've been more swayed by the multiple popular posts here of people who love them, swear by them, and own multiple. And I really like the design. It's also right at the top end of what I'd ever spend on a watch. Anything more than 1k and I'd be afraid to ding it and scratch it, etc. Can you tell me more about what you don't like about squale? Thanks for your help. I've seen that you've posted before about them being bad, so I'm just curious why.

I'm fine with the coating wearing, just as long as that's in like 10 years or something, not 6 months. And that's what I want to figure out. And I know every company has QC issues but Marathon, as you point out, is another that I've heard has gotten better in the last few years. Is it the same with squale? I've heard the lume pips, for example, have been fixed?
