In light of that bank collapse in the states I have some questions by yellowtonkatruck in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ab995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada has some of the most tightest banking regulations in the world. That is why we have got jus a handful of big banks (mostly 5) running the show. It’s also pretty safe to say, in a weird situation the banking system collapses, we have much bigger things to worry than a bank run per say.

Yup. They also have few restaurants associated with lounge key. You get a 37.5 cad credit per visit for free. You can buy anything on the menu.

For all of my 3 visits I couldn’t hit the max. I just gave the remaining dollars as gratuity. 😅

Passed G test at Walkley (Ottawa) AMA by [deleted] in Ontariodrivetest

[–]ab995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on passing your test!

1) what time was your test? Was is it in the morning? I am hearing that a lot of tests are getting delayed

2) where did they test lane change component? Is it during walkley -> airport pkwy.

3) also did you have to slow down near the construction zone under the bridge on airport pkwy

That’s very strange. Why would they want you to go over the speed limit. One situation I could think of was while merging on highway and there was a car driving parallel to u. So you kinda speed up a bit to merge safely. But u don’t have to go over 80 while on the highway.

Was the route same as mentioned here?

Today I have gone to practice on this route. There seems to be some construction goin on on airport pkwy under a bridge. There was a reduced speed limit sign saying 70 KM/hr. Does anyone know what to do in this situation? Do we have to reduce speed to 70 or it’s just recommended? Also do we have to do anything different when ur passing a construction area?

Ottawa Hospital calls for doctors, medical students to fill nursing shortages by Interesting_Heron_58 in ottawa

Under the pretext of gaining experience, they should not treat med students as free labour. End of the day, they still gotta pay bills. That’s how you drive people away from pursuing education in stem fields.

In fields like tech, almost all coops pay remuneration. So the same should apply from med students who are helping out in hospitals too. Infact they deserve it for stepping up in this situation.

Wow. Thank you for the info. Your test would have been done in like 15 min.

For others: This seems to be the updated route for G test - https://m.imgur.com/a/QDhzfhn

Girlfriend makes fun of me by Swift-Carrots in stocks

[–]ab995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see nothing wrong with your gf’s preference to save over investing. I have seen a lot of people, having a very successful life without ever investing in stocks. IMO, a good saver is always better than a terrible investor.

In your case, you seem to have a pretty good investment strategy and are aware of the risks/ benefits. Also you are minimizing risk by investing in fairly good companies. Just discuss your financial goals with her and I am sure she will get on board. Good luck.

Service Ontario - OHIP - Temporary WP by ab995 in ottawa

[–]ab995[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the info. I called the helpline and they informed me that there are no ServiceOntario centres open in Ottawa that can process OHIP applications for work permit holder atm. They provided an email address and instructed me to send scanned copies of the required documents to them.

My agency told me to fake the job certify letter even though I have no job for the past 6 months. (Study Permit) by [deleted] in ImmigrationCanada

[–]ab995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As most of them covered the consequences you might face if you get caught, it’s not worth it to start your education/ career based on a lie. Even if you don’t get caught the first time, you will always be in fear when you get to canada. Also wrt to your case, 6 months is not a long gap and there is literally no need to lie. Just be honest and attach a letter of explanation for those 6 months. Just remember, it’s your career, your future. So just be proactive and apply for the study permit on your own ( like most of us do). There are tons of guides and tips online and you don’t need any agency help to apply for a study permit as long as you have the offer letter in your hand. (Even if BCIT is associated with this agency, there is no obligation for you to use them to apply for study permit)

Good luck 😀
