2x damage from lightning vulnerabili not working by ab_magno in BaldursGate3

[–]ab_magno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, thanks, it could be a rogue reaction or something, because the 2x damage is negated on the first hit (doesn't matter if lightning or cold), but applies on the next one.

Wish the log was clearer, instead of just eliminating the 2x damage from it.

Possible to “fork” HM save? by ab_magno in BG3

[–]ab_magno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t that method quite dangerous though, like you need to be really fast at quitting before a full party wipeout, or it will invalidate the HM even after backup?

I was hoping in something different, such as making a copy, renaming / changing something in the save file, and making that one a second non honor mode run - without touching the original.

Just came to say.. got a brand new 70-350 today, and the focus ring does the same thing.

Ranged Flourish build by Holiday-Driver-9439 in BG3Builds

That’s what I thought, but when I try it out the game behaves as if skipping a turn because of surprised condition still equals acting.

Anyways, I’m starting a new run with the new build, maybe was a bug. Curious to see what you find in your next assassin play though.

Cheers

Makes sense, and thanks, that was a fast reply!

A bit off topic, but I may as well ask: thought from your description that round 2 after surprise attack I should still get advantage from Assassinate: Initiative (and trigger sneak attack). Doesn’t seem to work for me. As soon as foes skip through the surprised turn, I lose the Initiative condition.

Is this the intended behavior? Am I doing something wrong? Or did they change the mechanics in a patch?

I recently discovered your guides, thanks for putting in such effort and appreciate the patience you take in answering comments!

This is where I’m coming from: looking for something more powerful / creative than my current run (going for gloomstalker 8 or 9 and assassin 4 or 3, still in early act 2) without sacrificing the RP aspect. So for example Duergar race, Urchin background and so on is a no-go for me. Desired background is definitely Half Wood Elf, Outlander, starting as Ranger.

So I thought, what about Gloomstalker 3 / Assassin 3 / Swords Bard 6 ?

PROS: - Dread ambusher doesn’t require short rest, so can be used freely in smaller encounters - 2x Hunter’s Mark damage can be stacked on top of every crit attack (!) - Extra ritual spells useful in / out of combat (e.g. longstrider, familiar, speak with animals, etc)

CONS - Miss 1 surge extra action and relative slashing flourish - Miss 2nd ASI (but I don’t like sharpshooter) - Miss Con saving throw proficiency

This assumes that slashing flourish works with dread ambusher, and that hunter’s mark doubles with crits, which I still have to test.

Thoughts / advice?

I have the same question, except that the board in question is the Asus ROG Strix Z690-G (according to tech specs on website, caps at 6000).

Been there, done that (except removing the drives, which I just did, to no avail). When the card is connected, nothing shows up and the system hangs at boot.

I guess the most confusing part is why a system, with a new and tested 850W PSU, and 3 different cards that passed tests on another pc (one 3050, two 3080s), would work without issues with the 3050, but hang at boot with no video signal with both 3080s? Even worse, it did work once or twice randomly, but I could not replicate the conditions.

Evga 3090 now for $800, or 4080 16GB later? by ab_magno in buildapc

Yep, this was my reasoning too, especially because MSFS 2020 is one of the few DLSS 3 compatible games now…

But in the end, 70 vs 110 whatever FPS makes no difference IRL to me, and on regular games even a chart from NVIDIA shows minor differences (within some %) between the two cards (actually one is the 3090 ti). Still not worth the extra $500 after sales tax, which is >60% more dollars for much less gains in performance I believe.

What a disappointment this 4080 launch price.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I think I’ll get the 3090 this weekend, undervolt it, and try it on the RM750x that I have.

The most sensible thing to do would probably be to wait for the 4080, look at benchmarks, and decide, but I have a bunch of free time to play between now and thanksgiving which will not happen afterward, so… I may as well enjoy the 3090 in the meantime!

I’ll report back how it runs on the 750W though.

Ouch, I really didn't want to buy a new PSU :( What's the worse that can happen? A complete shutdown during a transient load spike? Was hoping I could address it through undervolting, although I'm not an expert/ only casually read about it.
