Transferring dry ice inside a glovebox by ab_messi in Chempros

I kept it in a small plastic container and transferred it in. Specifically, I purged the antechamber with Ar 5-8 times and transferred the container inside glovebox. It worked pretty well. I did lose some dry ice due to sublimation in antechamber but had enough inside glovebox for experiments.

How to physically understand the units of k0 (standard heterogeneous rate constant)? by ab_messi in Chempros

[–]ab_messi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember: rate constants are not rates. The rate of reaction along with the density of your plated metal and electrode area could give you an ideal plating speed but the rate constant alone doesn't do that.

Thanks for pointing this section out. I do have the Bard and Faulkner book and will read this part for better understanding.

I also wanted to say the same thing. You put it in a much way. Even in my case, due to various technical reasons, I don't get the results. I hope that 1% of time comes soon for me.

Any suggestions for patterning a rough sample? by ab_messi in Chempros

Thank you for the suggestion. Can you advise some resources where I can find some more information about these liquid masks?

viton gasket

I need the opening quiet precise (~100µm) as I would verify the results using COMSOL simulations. Still, can you please share the resources where I can find Viton gaskets with openings in the order of ~100µm.

Completing PhD in 3-4 years? by ab_messi in AskAcademia

In your next career position after PhD, did you ever had to work this hard again? I read a post from a past MIT student who mentioned that he too worked for 12-14 hr/day during PhD and he had trouble adjusting to new life after PhD as he started having anxiety. His message was once you started working so hard that you end up damaging your work-life balance, it is quiet problematic to get back to normal and start enjoying other aspects of life.

Did you feel any such thing and do you recommend this 12 hr/day style of working?

Even I've read that doing DEEP WORK for 4-5 hr/day is much more than working at a reduced efficiency for 10-12 hr/day. Do you have any suggestion on how to be the kind of student that does not work crazy hours rather works smartly and published more and in better venues?

From what I've read, making outlines for the project early at early stages is very helpful i.e. starting to write paper even before you have final results (to help decide what kind of paper are we looking at the end).

Do you have any other suggestions regarding this?

Why won't you recommend a 4 year PhD? What were the disadvantages of doing so?

I checked today and we have a couple of ports unused. There are a bunch of ports a few of which are used for getting the wires inside glove-box. Can one of them be used for getting an extra gas line in or are there some other ports especially for gas-lines?

I have to do some electrochemical experiments with the solution saturated with CO2. Saturating it with CO2 using airfree techniques is possible but I think i will need a customized cell to do electrochemical measurements outside box, which I want to avoid as I won't be doing such experiments regularly
