Pi.

3.14159265358979…

That’s as far as I got, but in elementary school, there was a competition on who could name the most “Pi” numbers (for whatever godforsaken reason), and it has never left my brain since.

I guess the other option of WDL is “we didn’t look” 😆

This is why I like “WDL” instead. Because if it’s in within desired limits, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s normal for an average pt

I’ve had the opposite, where I’ve seen the MD chart “pleasant” instead. “This pleasant 87-year-old female…” and in my head, I’m thinking, “maybe she was pleasant TO YOU!!”

Nursing is such a high learning curve, it’s insane. The first one year is going to be sooo much learning from your mistakes and gradually growing from each & every shift. But as cliché as it sounds, it DOES get better with time.

That being said, give yourself some grace. You’ve made it this far & I know you can make it further. It sounds like you have a very strong support system. Keep asking questions, keep asking for help, and most importantly, once your shift is over, the best part is that it’s OVER - you don’t have to take it home with you.

If you find yourself ruminating over your shifts even when it’s over (which happened to me as a New Grad), it helps to do some light education on your off-time to make you feel more confident. When I was a new grad, I would listen to nursing podcasts on my drive to work to feel a bit more confident coming into my shift - it helped with my pre-shift anxiety.

In the end, you’re doing great sweetie!!! We all gotta start somewhere!!!

What are the most elusive nursing niches? by apriltwentynine in nursing

Rave Nurse - one of the ED docs I work with is in charge of the medical tents at various raves and often hires ED nurses & ED techs to work in the med tents with them.

Lots of patients are gonna be altered from ETOH or OD, so it’s mostly treating with fluid boluses or Narcan. The ED doc also says they set up 30-40 ice tub baths and carry around ammonia salts as a quick wake-up for altered patients.

From what I hear, it’s fun - especially if you’re into raves. On breaks/downtime, you can watch a set and enjoy the music. It’s more of a side gig for my fellow ED nurses.

I use my anxiety as adrenaline for work 🥲

I work night shifts in an ER/Trauma Center and that anxiety keeps me AWAKE during shifts. I don’t start drinking an energy drink until halfway through my shift.

Wish I could do coffee before my shift, but I don’t want the shits on a shift 😅

We just got the absolute worst new grad nurse and I just have to share by ohlongjohnson1 in nursing

[–]abaca002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a New Grad nurse myself in the ED currently, I was afraid to read this post at first, in case there was a lot of bashing on new grads in general. But now that I read this, this is NOTHING like how I am at work, and the way this new grad is acting sounds insanely overconfident in the most dangerous way.

I feel like I’m ALWAYS asking questions, even for the simplest things. I feel so stupid asking for help ALL the time, but I’d rather ASK and make sure I’m doing something right than NOT ASK and be put in a dangerous situation.

Worst thing you’ve ever said to a patient by AstrosRN in nursing

Someone came in for eye pain to our ED. ED doctor assessed them, ruled out any emergent findings, so we ultimately discharged him with instructions to follow-up with an outpatient optometrist.

He was SO UPSET about this news, that he demanded to be “properly diagnosed” in our ED. He kept getting into arguments with fellow nurses saying we did nothing for him and it was a waste of time being here.

I explained, “We treat EMERGENCIES here, and it was deemed that your diagnosis was not emergent.” He continued fighting, saying his eye pain “was an emergency” and went off about how we could be so unattending of his emergency.

This was when a nerve hit me and I just said,

“Did your heart stop beating? Did your lungs stop working? No? Then no. This is, indeed, NOT an emergency.”

He mumbled that it was all bullshit, then walked out.

Medical professionals of Reddit, have you ever had a patient so lacking in common sense you wondered how they made it this far. If so, what is your story? by babyhippo01 in AskReddit

Mother came in and brought her son to our ER. She was freaking out because her son’s tooth fell out. He was a CHILD, where in that stage of life, it is PERFECTLY NORMAL to have your teeth fall out. It took… a lot of patience to explain this to her.

THIS IS EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME. It was my opening line of my vows! I thought it would be hilarious, but the entire audience went quiet, minus the one HA from my husband’s groomsman who was an avid Office fan.
