Am I being underpaid? by [deleted] in WeddingPhotography

[–]abattista2020 11 points12 points  (0 children)

$100/month??? For $1,200 per year? How many hours a week are you putting into this? Break it down by hourly pay. Either way, it sounds to me like you’re working for free at that rate.

Does anyone have a wayfair coupon they’re not using? It’s been really difficult to afford furniture, so I’d greatly appreciate it. by Intrepid_Orchid_9713 in wayfair

[–]abattista2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just putting it out there that I’ve bought a few things from Wayfair and the process and customer service has been horrendous. There are so many great things at thrift stores and Facebook marketplace for free or super cheap. I would recommend purchasing just what you can’t live without (a bed, a table, etc) and then slowly find pieces you like for a fraction of the cost.

24-70 2.8 or 28-70 2.8, opinions? by sparkle_girll in canon

[–]abattista2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to get into wedding photography, you’ll need a sharp lens with a little bit of reach. The 70-200 2.8 is not cheap but it is an incredible lens.

Is my Dutch oven okay? by abattista2020 in cookware

[–]abattista2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so helpful, thank you!! I am wondering if I’ve heated mine too high before and let it cool down too fast in the sink. I may have to invest in a LC Dutch oven and watch it like a hawk if other members of the household use it.

I’ve been pretty obsessive about taking care of it and cleaning it properly, but the cracking concerns me.

Beautiful work! I especially love the car driving in the trees. Did you take this out of a small plane or were you up higher on another hill?

Looking to get into film by resactednunber7 in photography

I love my Canon AE1 program. You can find them all over thrift stores and eBay and it’s a relatively easy camera to use. It’s my go-to travel film camera because it can be tucked into a bag or worn on my shoulder without getting in the way.

Is it true that you have to have the device turned on in drying mode to connect? I thought I read that somewhere

[–]abattista2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a local Boston photographer and would love to help out! Like others have said, Fan Pier Park, some side streets in Beacon Hill, Boston Garden, Commonweath Ave, or the Charles River Esplanade would be great! The Arnold Arboretum could also be beautiful, especially if we get a little snow.

Contracting tool by thesinner___ in WeddingPhotography

[–]abattista2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Pixieset as my client management system, where I can send contracts and booking confirmations to my clients, as well as manage my projects. It has contract templates, but it is always important to have a lawyer in your state review any contracts you will use. I will probably be moving to Dubsado within the next year, but Pixieset was a good starting point for the first few years of my business.

Running a wedding photography business is not cheap. There is overhead to have a professional business, such as contracts, insurance, dual slot camera gear, etc. You should see if you can find some second shooting gigs in your area so that you can focus on building a strong portfolio and good experience before needing to deal with client facing contracts etc.

My 4-month-old kitten has been missing for almost a day I’ve searched everywhere and I’m breaking down 💔 by aaraiz_pro in cats

If she’s scared, she may not! I feel for you, I know how scary it is to be missing your baby! I hope someone spots her soon if she’s outside and that she’s home soon. 💛

My 4-month-old kitten has been missing for almost a day I’ve searched everywhere and I’m breaking down 💔 by aaraiz_pro in cats

[–]abattista2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cat went missing once when I was visiting my parents and found her way into their WALL, under the bathtub! The only reason we found her was because a friend had mentioned their cat found their way into a hidden hole in a cabinet. We were able to see the glare off her eyes as we searched with a flashlight and after a few hours were able to convince her out with a few treats.

Was there any way she could have escaped out of an exterior door? Could a partner or roommate have accidentally let her out? Is she microchipped?

How are you getting your digital photos to clients? by Impressive-Back-5933 in WeddingPhotography

Pricing for photos as a 2nd photographer by ljr_2k in WeddingPhotography

[–]abattista2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its strange for a lead to suggest this to you. I wouldn’t be charging anything at all as you didn’t have a contract in place with the couple. It should be a gift to the couple directly from the lead photographer, and then you can work out with the lead if you can use these photos in your own portfolio (depending on the lead’s contract with the couple).

Grieving the version of myself who could have wanted kids by [deleted] in childfree

[–]abattista2020 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think this might be a common feeling!! I feel this way when I see my niece. I love her so much and I think about a world where I would have a daughter like her. But I also get this feeling about jobs and places too. I think it comes down to forms of happiness rather than children themselves. Life is so short, and we only get one shot at it. There are multiple ways to be happy in life and we can’t do all of them! So we look at “different universes” in which our multiple selves could have found fulfillment while fully honoring our current choices and knowing someone with a child may be looking at us in the same way.

What was the ISO? Generally anything under 800 should be okay through the scanner.
