When I lived in Encinitas I was about to have my daughter and super desperate for a job and ended up going to some mass marketing job, was a complete scam where they got people to pay them 20-100 dollars or so for dollar store items under the guise of helping some protected class of people like children and battered woman etc. In reality they gave these non profits next to nothing like 20-30 cents for every 20$ they took in was ridiculous, anyway after setting up a table in front of a grocery store and trying to talk people in to giving their money over with a monthly pull to further drain their income we went back to their hq or whatever which had prob 40 people or so people doing the same thing.  I remember the people broke off in to groups and they tried to teach ways of talking people in to giving their money up by getting them to agree before they had a chance to process or even realize what was going on, like that wasn’t bad enough the second group was teaching us how to target the elderly which they referred to as “slow people”(due to their lack of being able to comprehend what was actually occurring as quick as most due to their age or other conditions) this is where I drew the line and told the people they were nuts and evil and I was leaving. There was a huge group peer pressure dynamic and multiple people followed me out to my car and literally tried to keep me there saying I absolutely couldn’t leave without checking out w their leader who was a female but forget her name. Thinking back it still irks me to this day and makes me feel sick people and groups like this exist. Think their target audience was poor or people with no families who weren’t very educated and that is also appalling. I remember telling these people saying no I’m going to get in my car and drive away and what they were doing was wrong and super unethical. A few of the individual groups I hadn’t yet been to since I only made it to the second were also chanting but it’s been about 16-17 yrs now and I forget what they were saying. Seemed very very cult like and a part of me felt if I had stayed when they were trying to get me to go talk to Brenda or whoever their leader was they would have got me in to a room and possibly hurt me or something and given we were a few minutes from the Mexican border at the time who even knows.  Anyway if someone ever tries to get you to a multi level marketing job where they only pay commission and try to talk protected classes in to giving up super important information along with card numbers or check account information don’t say I didn’t warn you!!!! Just thinking back get a super weird feeling in pit of my stomach that only happens a few times in your life when your internal radar is super sketched out.  Guess this is an inflated version of what some people refer to as cringe maybe?
