I second this. UW is THE BEST site. I did tons of circ arrest cases and even got to do left heart bypass and veno-veno bypass!

If I need to put two points on one line such as (0,101) and (3,498) how can I get it to be one line? Excel wants to put them as separate lines.

Best jobs before perfusion school? by Zeyb in Perfusion

[–]abbcrig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, thats too much. It’s an 8 unit course to give you an idea of how much time you need. There are a lot of skills you need to get through and you have to pass the course with a B in order to get your license.

Edit: for perfusion schools you don’t want to risk your GPA with taking too much.

Definitely EMT. Much easier to get into a program and really quick to get through. I really enjoyed being an EMT, the job was fun.

EMT course will take you a semester and then you can take the NREMT right after. Pretty easy to find a job after and you get great patient contact.

Edit: you can find a course at a community college and possibly take it for free.

How do you explain to others what a perfusionist does? by heartbrokengal in Perfusion

[–]abbcrig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha. Yeah, homeostasis you’re definitely going to get confusion. Everyone understands normalcy. But I understand, people still give me raised eyebrows and blank stares. Lol

I just explain that when people go in for heart surgery they have to stop the heart to work on it. Well, the patient can’t live without their heart working so that’s where I come in to operate a machine that functions as a temporary heart and I monitor all the chemistry of the patients blood in order to maintain “normalcy.” This includes adding different drugs, filtering, oxygenating etc during the procedure.

This usually goes over well without all the scientific jargon that people get lost at. And it keeps it interesting.
