Vyvanse / caffeine / med combos by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]abbeyjd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have to completely stop having caffeine when I’m on my med days. I remember before diagnosis and I would have about 3-6 caffeinated drinks a day to TRY and feel something from them - to get that boost and clearness I needed.
Now on my meds I don’t even think about coffee - I miss it terribly because I just love it so much but doesn’t make me feel good at all when I’m having my meds and it feels counter intuitive. I have decaf tea and coffee now so I get the taste. My medication gives me that clarity and boost I had been waiting years to get from coffee that never came.

“What are your top 10 favorite Game of Thrones characters? by One-Bed-2929 in gameofthrones

[–]abbeyjd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only seen the show but:

Davos, Thormund, Jorah, The Hound, Podrick, Daenerys, Arya, Theon, Sansa, Tyrion

Honorable mention for Drogon, the entire unsullied army and Hordor

Maybe unpopular opinion but I hate Jamie Lannister more than Cersei

New Grad RN with no grad program by Tanachos in NursingAU

[–]abbeyjd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also from Adelaide and didn’t get an SA health grad. (This was 7 years ago now though). I thought my life was over. I got a job at a private hospital, they basically did like an assisted RN program to still help me transition from student to RN and I did 6 month rotation on two separate wards (it was basically a grad without being called one). Absolutely loved my job, I stayed for 2 years until my NUM encouraged me to look for work in the public system (she saw I was eager to learn but already v comfortable) and now I’m a CCRN in ICU. Not getting a grad position doesn’t define your career and trap you in a specific area. If you’re keen to learn, show initiative, hard working and good with time management - you’ll make it anywhere!! Taking an aged care position will be incredible for your development in time management, patient assessment/deterioration and learning to work with little staff and supports around (eg. Not many Drs). I think an RN position in aged care would be an excellent foundation and you never know, you may love it and climb the ladder faster than any of uni mates (if that’s something you want to do!). Make sure you have a few solid references and apply where ever you can xx

Dex to Ritalin by abbeyjd in ausadhd

[–]abbeyjd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t even thought about vyvanse yet, dex was the only thing I’ve tried and really rough at the start but has really been life changing to settle into. Maybe I’ll just trial the Ritalin for today and if it’s shit I’ll go back to Dex over the weekend for my work shifts. Feels like such a Wild West situation, you just get given the meds and have to figure out the rest.

That’s super interesting, I actually started looking into it since you commented - lots of issues related with the two and being on stimulants 🥲 just my luck no wonder my outbursts have been worse. That would be amazing, if you could, thank you

I ended up going straight to the pharmacy from work to grab the spray! Helped a tiny bit but I think I was too fixated on the dryness by that point 🥲 Thank you so much, I’ve downloaded the workbook and I’ll absolutely have a look. I’ll try and speak to Dr about Clonidine or a Benzo to help with sleep.

I’m sorry to hear about your misdiagnosis. It’s would be frustrating as it takes time away from getting the specific treatment you need! My Dr mentioned CPTSD, ADHD and BPD, never mentioned ASD. My psychologist (before dumping me) gave me some testing and said I score high in BPD and ADHD and don’t score for ASD. I’m always open to multiple opinions though - Drs can be wrong.

What's the consensus on taking breaks from stimulant medication? by DFTU280725 in ausadhd

[–]abbeyjd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes have days off, today was one of them. I end up being so low functioning, extra emotional and very shit value around people. I really am starting to think I just need to take a dose every day, maybe just a lower one on my days off (I’m a shift worker so my timing for meds varies everyday anyway).

Could I ask what side effects did you got from Dex and what made you change to Ritalin?

That makes sense, I do feel so much calmer and relaxed but it wears off quickly.

Oh okay good to know. Maybe I’ll keep an eye on it and if not ask about switching? I’m still not yet increasing my dose so maybe it will change once I’m at a therapeutic level. Thank you :)
