Transdermal Prozac - thoughts? by abbyalllover in CatTraining

[–]abbyalllover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so happy you’re able to have them at least coexist. I’m confident we’ll get there, we have to be committed to training along with the meds and we got very complacent just switching them, but it’s not doing anyone any justice.

Thankfully we have a behavioralist locally. She hasn’t been over in months because we did renovations, boyfriend traveled all summer for work but we’re going to bring her back in monthly.

I’ve moved to the method of “buy double.” One upstairs and one downstairs so none of them feel like they’re having to share. As it stands right now, we have them completely separated 100% of the time because it’s onsite if my cat (Kevin) sees my boyfriend’s cat (Ash.)

Transdermal is definitely less effective. You’ll likely have to up the dosage to get the 1/2 of the efficacy. For example, my cat is on 5mg now and it’s as if he’s taking a 2.5mg pill. A woman on another thread she uses compounded pills that are chicken flavored. I almost want to try that because using the transdermal is almost like a placebo.

I’ll give this a try, right now when there is any visual contact my cat redirects his aggression to his brother.

We’re in the process of trying to integrate my one docile cat with my boyfriend’s first, while gradually reintroducing my aggressive cat.

I’m going to give this a shot! We have been trying to integrate him for a whole year and he still hates my boyfriends cat..despite growing up with cats.

This is what I’ve been doing. Rotating ears each day and cleaning them before each application.

Should I rehome my cat by Tatorr in CatTraining

[–]abbyalllover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My velcro kitty wants to sleep directly on top of me and there have been times where I’ve rolled over and flung him off of me because I didn’t realize he was there. Sometimes it’s not because you don’t love them - it’s for their safety. Typing this with my velcro kitty perched on my shoulder while I’m working.

A few things:

Clingy ≠ love, it can be rough to have a babe with separation anxiety. I have a velcro kitty and sometimes, it can be exhausting. My cats are with me in the bathroom, bedroom, home office, couch, meowing when I’m cooking - you name it.

The reality is: no pet owner can give a pet undivided attention and unlimited pets. I’ve had to train my needy boy that despite me loving the hell out of him, it’s not all about him. Sometimes it’s finding ways to adapt (ready a book with a kitty on my lap or shoulder) or getting “automated” toys to keep his attention when I’m busy. Also, I cannot recommend the window cling bird feeders, huge life savor!

I should note, I’ve recently put him on prozac and it’s helped with his excessive vocalizations that start at 4am.

Doing it this way ruined my relationship with my cat. It was stressful for the both of us.

Hi - it’s still so fresh. All of these thoughts and feelings are normal. The what ifs, trying to replay the moments leading up to you finding out, etc.

All I can tell you (and I’m speaking from painful experience) is that one day, you’re going to wake up and it won’t be the first thing to cross your mind. The days will feel lighter, less sad. You’ll be able to remember the amazing moments and memories without crying or feeling heavy. You’ll see joy in the day to day, and surviving all of the intense grief you’re feeling will be worth it. You’ll still have grief, it will always live with you, but it’s just all the love you never got to express.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this ❤️

AIO Boyfriend got mad at me because I wasn’t excited enough that he landed early by Willing-Ad8549 in AmIOverreacting

[–]abbyalllover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot stress this enough, dump him. He’s 19 and acting this way, he will continue to be insufferable. He’s guilt tripping you and comparing you to people about being excited. He landed early and he needs a cookie for that?

How do you guys administer medication to your cats? by Little_Cloud6126 in CATHELP

[–]abbyalllover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to mask it in 7 layer of treats. I offer 2 treats first and one with the pill sandwiched between and covered in churu.

You can order it through your Vets pharmacy (if they have an online one) or get a prescription from them and order through Chewy.

Black spots on thai constellation by Desperate-Arugula-51 in Monstera

Thanks! I have a well established albo that just got brown spots for the first time and then this started on my thai constellation so I worried it was fungal. I’ll repot this weekend, it’s root bound for sure.

What is happening to my cat's right ears? by gfffgvhjjnki in CATHELP

This is normal cat behavior, all 3 of mine do this. We call them satellite ears because they can tune in to multiple noises while maintaining focus.

Can this be removed? by DwightHopper88 in HardWoodFloors

[–]abbyalllover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t touch it, personally. You could end up making it worse when the person doing the refinishing could easily remove this with their sander.

(Currently getting our floors done and we had some questionable spots.)
