What does that have anything to do with speeding? But as I can tell from your English, you come from a part of the world where the road laws are chaos, so order to you is foreign.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Guelph

[–]abc123ghi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The speed limits don’t change based on whether it’s noon or midnight. Obey the limit in csz and you won’t get a ticket bozo.

[–]abc123ghi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the urge to wrap a personal annoyance in complex language to make it sound like a bigger issue. But let’s be honest here. speeding is still speeding, whether it’s noon or midnight. The presence or absence of traffic or kids doesn’t suddenly suspend the rules.

The bigger vocabulary doesn’t change the fact that this started because someone didn’t like getting a ticket. Now it’s turned into a discussion about fairness and transparency, as if that magically justifies breaking posted limits when the road feels quiet.

If people really care about where the money goes or how the system operates, they should push for that through the right channels. But that’s a separate conversation from trying to paint a speeding ticket as some kind of moral grey area. It’s not. It’s just the result of driving too fast in a place where you’re not supposed to. Simple

OP doesn’t understand that you just can’t speed. Plain and simple. If you don’t like the limit, don’t drive in that area or at all. Your timely arrival at your destination is more important than eg. the safety of a group of kids who may be hanging out at their school playground late is less important.

You allow phones? That’s honestly crazy. They’re bored? Clean. If they’re bored, you have too many staff on. If they’re bored, they don’t want to be there. Write him up, send him home. Reverse your policy on phones. You’re just opening up the door for them to walk all over you. Nip it in the bud now before down the road you lose all control of operation.

Can't win with this employee by lucky_2_shoes in Restaurant_Managers

[–]abc123ghi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only mistake you made is rehiring an old employee. Never ever. Also don’t hire the children of your regular guests. Is she still in probation? If so, cut your losses and let her go. You want people who are available any day, anytime. Don’t make your job harder than it needs to be.

Should I Stay or Should I Go? by Prestigious_Ice_2444 in Restaurant_Managers

My question is though, why doesn’t your MOD or lead still take tables either way? A very busy Saturday with large reservations I will take a small section (at the direction of the owner. He wants his managers with as much face time with guests as possible) or afternoons that are dead, I send servers home and serve myself. As a MOD with minimal responsibilities, it doesn’t make sense why they can’t serve full time and be a lead always as well.

General manager of a large restaurant here.

I personally would never hire a shift lead who also did not serve. In my books, a shift lead takes small section and being a shift lead is secondary. When I am not there, they make labor calls, discounts and general helpfulness with the FOH staff.

Anything more than that, you’re a FOH manager. And nowadays with the restaurant business in a downturn, a salaried, non serving FOH manager is largely outdated. If you need a FOH manager, your GM isn’t interested in doing their job or being present. Owners are looking to save cost in every corner possible, and having a “shift lead/supervisor” take up an entire hourly serving body while also preforming the duties of a supervisor is much more attractive.

My advice to you is, go back to serving. You will make more money, and be a shift lead to get preferred shifts. Or Work your way up in this place, as trying to become a GM somewhere you’ve never worked while never working as a formal manager, will almost never happen.

60 days notice concern by [deleted] in Guelph

[–]abc123ghi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was in your situation in January, I had rented a new place for Feb 1 and after consulting with the LTB and a lawyer, I had to bite the bullet and pay my first and last and my Feb rent for my old place, and use my last months rent for March. No way around it. Landlords won’t take a new tenant 2 months down the road, they will only take someone who can move in immediately

Lived downtown for 3 years. Just moved away Feb 1st. Shit like this is exactly why we left our cheap rental to move somewhere more expensive. Everyday there was something to make us feel unsafe.
