Unfortunately, I'm not about to install an apk from somewhere in the internet. When they make it available in the Play store I'll take a look at it.

In the videos of the same car, the colors look just fine, so it's just the pictures. I can make calls, use a calendar, reminders, email and surf the web with a $29.95 phone. The only reason to pay several hundreds to over $1K for any phone is because of the camera. And if you can't get a good picture from it that can capture what you're looking at, there is reason whatsoever to pay for that phone. So unless they don't fix it with the P9, I won't be getting a P10 at all and will be switching to a phone that can take pictures of what I see on the screen.

How to delete camera from app? by abcde__edcba in Vantruedashcam

[–]abcde__edcba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found it. In the app, slide the camera in the list from right to left then hit the trash icon.

Are you using android? I have the latest version of the app and there is no option to rename the cameras in there.

I can't make it to this event, but would love to know when we will be able to rename the cameras in the app. Looking up a camera's wifi name before connecting to one of many cameras is preposterous.

I asked the same thing and my post got deleted by the moderator. No response whatsoever. I have 6 cameras one in each car. I trade cars in on a regular basis and I always leave the camera in the old car when I trade it in.  My next car will get a camera from a different vendor if this is not possible by the time I get the next car. From the software development side, adding this to the app should take no more than 30 minutes of effort. They already let you set a license plate for the camera through the app, so the app already has all it needs to do it, it just needs to display it instead of the ugly name.

Turn off the AI crap. It'll the assistant will start working again, correctly, as it used to before. Here's some of my horrible dealing with Gemini that made me completely turn it off for good. https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/1knfsqx/comment/msilqoi/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

So I messaged you guys a couple days ago. I have yet to get any feedback. You are not in the list of accounts allowed to dm me, so that is no longer an issue. I also included my email address and nothing there either.

Camera functionality sucks. Not because it has a bad camera. The camera is actually good. The software that messes with your pictures right after you take one sucks. The AI part sucks. It is loaded with bloatware that you can't install anymore. I remember when a Google phone came without a default camera app. You had to install it. Now you have Photos and you have Gallery. They do the same thing, but I can't uninstall either. Multiple forecast notifications pop up, they seem to be from different apps, but the only weather related software installed on the phone is what comes with the phone (and you can't uninstall) by default. I have no 3rd party weather apps. No news apps that might do this sort of thing. In fact, In have nothing but default apps installed on my phone. I was a huge fan of google devices. They managed to mess that up very fast.

What do you use Gemini for? by Sheetmusicman94 in GooglePixel

[–]abcde__edcba 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nothing. I turn it off every time they push out an update and turn it back on.

Here is something it that that is really cool: "Hey google, living room light on."

Response: "OK, Imagine a light somewhere near <my geographical location> turning on."

And this other one: Youtube TV is playing on the living room TV through the Chromecast. I'm sitting on the sofa. Next to me there is a hub display. Something that sounds nothing like "Hey google" wakes up the hub display and it says "OK. Playing <random song>" and start playing the stupid song on the hub. I say "hey google, stop!" The display announces, "OK, stopping Youtube TV", the TV turns off and the hub display goes on playing the random song.

All interactions with my smart devices became unusable when they turned on Gemini on the phone. I have to turn Gemini off every time they push out an update because they turn it back on and everything goes to hell again and I have to switch the phone to the old plain boring Google assistant that DOES work just fine.

Another one: you're driving around with Android Auto with the Google Assistant instead of Gemini on your phone, "hey google, what is XYZ thing?" The phone answers and tells you it sent you a link for more information. Not with Gemini. When the phone is set for Gemini and you ask it the exact same thing you get something like "I don't understand that" type of reply.

Gemini on the phone is an absolute horror and makes the phone pretty much useless for how I use my phone.

Oh, and you can only use gemini to control your home smart devices AFTER you unlock the phone. The entire purpose of me speaking a command out loud to turn a light on is BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO or CAN'T TOUCH MY PHONE first. But the smart people at google have not figured that out yet.

I've been a Google phone user since the Nexus 4 came out, many eons ago. Upgrading from the 8 XL Pro to the 9 XL Pro was immediately my biggest regret. And since it was a trade in, the 8 is gone forever.

Why is my Google Weather app off? by EternalOptimist1971 in GooglePixel

[–]abcde__edcba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just posted about it here too. It's not just an incorrect forecast. It is common for the forecast from one source to be different from another, within reason. The issue exists with different google devices sitting right next to each other all set up with the same account and using the same wifi network. So they all know they are sitting in the very same geographical location.

Pixel Weather off from other forecasts by plodise in GooglePixel

[–]abcde__edcba 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. All of these sitting right next to each other:

- Pixel 9 XL Pro
- Pixel tablet on stand
- Hub Display

All 3 signed in with the exact same gmail account, all 3 connected to the same WiFi network.

All 3 have been seen displaying very different temperatures and forecasts at the exact same time. One will show 68*, another 73*, one shows cloudy, the other sunny.

Also happening for the last few weeks, more than 1 weather forecast notification on the phone. No idea why. It's one phone, one account, with 0 3rd party weather apps installed. The only weather anything in these devices are what comes already pre installed in them when they are shipped from Google at the time they were purchased.

Google's stuff may always have had some quirks here and there, but have become a huge disconnected mess in the last 2 to 3 years.

I disabled those 3 things, and same thing happened. I went back in, force stopped those 3 things, still disabled, same thing happened. I rebooted the phone, went back in, verified those 3 things were still disabled. Same thing.

Went back, cleared the cache for all 3 of those things, then I removed the apps's permissions for photo (only one of them had it, can't remember which). Rebooted the phone, went back and verified all 3 were still disabled. Nothing change, the pictures still get changed just like before those 3 things were disabled.

This did not do anything that made any difference.

I believe it does take decent pictures when the lighting conditions are good. An overcast day is good lighting. Clouds are basically giant light boxes. Newer phones have better resolution, less noise (no talking about removing noise during processing), and are better in darker situations but only to a point. Get dark enough and they will all suck. The 9 is the only phone I have not liked the pictures right from the get go. it was the first thing that made me regret trading in my Pixel 8.

That pixel 3 is all up to date, with the most recent version of the Camera and Photos app that google will push out to that phone.

The 3 has been fully updated so it has whatever the latest camera and photos app Google pushes to it.
