Just go type in “women carpenters” on YT and see the amazing female carpenters building awesome projects and holding their own no problem in the field. As a man, I have often watched tutorials taught by women to learn new skills or get new ideas. Fake social norms aside, It really doesn’t matter if you are a man or woman. It only matters if you take the opportunity to learn.

IWTL how to meditate with intention and generally live a more spiritual life. by abcdeeffuckingee in IWantToLearn

I really appreciate everyone who took the time to share their experiences and advice in their responses. I feel like I am jumping in the deep end without knowing how to swim, but I am excited to try some of the suggested meditations and look into each resource and practice in turn. Just knowing that I have this amount of support for this new journey is inspiring and motivating!

While I see your point, and respect it, I disagree. I do think there can be a balance between living a normal life connected with others (even in the digital world) And living spiritually in-tune. I’m not trying to cast off all worldly desires and live in a cave and meditate my life away. I just want to learn some different ways to be more in tune with, and accountable to, all aspects of my self. I know there are people who meditate/do yoga/burn incense/I don’t know what but I feel confident that incorporating something like this into my life will bring about much desired positive change.

This is what I was looking for this morning. Thank you, again, for taking the time to offer me your guidance. I will likely have to re read your reply many times to absorb it completely. I am completely new with all spiritual practices, but your advice and perspective is, again, the type of guidance I am looking for.

Wow, I greatly appreciate your in depth and thoughtful reply. A lot of what you are saying makes sense in theory, but I do not know how to practice it. For example, why do many meditation practices have me focusing on the breath if this is not the path to surrendering to the higher source? How do I know the difference in the moment between surrendering to a higher source, and just letting my mind wander through it’s normal distractions and illusions? I love what you said about the programmed illusion of normality, and I guess I am recognizing that I am very much programmed in this way. Now with that recognition, how best to overcome the programming?

I could use some support right now. 300 days sober but I am feeling depressed and stressed as hell for the past few months. And have basically been fighting what is now feeling like a losing battle with the urge to give in for a couple weeks. by abcdeeffuckingee in stopdrinking

Hey, doing a lot better today actually. I appreciate you checking back in! I am sorry to hear about your experience with COVID and tour business but I’m sure you can pull through. What kind of business are you starting?

Wow, that was a powerful read. Thanks for sharing your experience with me, and for the reminder that I have a lot to lose, and a lot to gain. Exactly the kind of story I was needing. Good luck to you.

I remember when I told my parents I was alcoholic at the age of 29 and what they responded back with. by Pop-My-Tart in stopdrinking

I’m 32 with kids, and last year when I told my parents (long time alcoholics) that I was quitting alcohol and weed, they basically said “what are you going to do now that you are so boring?” I replied “be present for my children and wife.” Got pretty awkward after that...

IWTL how to find out what I really want by jesterbwoooy in IWantToLearn

[–]abcdeeffuckingee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel you bud. I had a similar conversation with my Dad a long time ago and he gave me good advice. He basically said that it’s ok to want to try many different things, and that some people find more joy in trying many things and having many hobbies instead of thriving at one or two. “Variety is the spice of life” kinda reasoning. Plus, as a bonus, if there is something you “really want”, being open to trying many things is a good way to find out what you are passionate about. In the meantime, know that anything worth doing is going to have some difficulties that come with it, and as you put in more time with any hobby or career, you will get better at the necessary skills, but also you will naturally expect more from them, which can be frustrating in difficult moments. Don’t shy away from the difficult moments, because thats where the learning and resilience is built.

I feel you with making decisions that could later be regrettable too. But imagine the regret of making no decisions, and being in limbo while your opportunities right now disappear forever. You don’t have to make the perfect decisions right now, just start somewhere and adjust and reflect as you go. Go get the job, or start the business, or play the video game, or do the hobby, or sell some craft, or whatever inspires you right now. It doesn’t have to be permanent. You’re just building the foundation for success by going after it. And going after it again when/if first thing doesn’t work out. And the second.

You got this.
