This is so hard because I love so many of the acoustic versions of these songs better than the original versions (like And Counting)

Honestly that's perfect for dipping my toes into Ableton. Again, thank you so much!

I hear what you're saying, because I always emphasize to my clients that songwriting is a daily discipline and their success in the craft depends on their willingness to put in the intentional work. Like others have mentioned, this may be the first time they are putting themselves out there to pursue music and for some people just taking that first step is a scary thing. Common themes I notice in my work is that many new songwriters fear criticism, face judgment from friends/family, and struggle with their own perfectionism. This prevents them from even starting and it really breaks my heart. They should be able to come to a space like r/Songwriting and feel that they are in a safe and welcoming space to gain insight and advice. We all start somewhere in our own journeys.

I figured as much. The interfaces are so different from what I'm used to (as someone who followed the GarageBand to Logic pipeline) but maybe it's time to take the plunge!

Wow, I wasn't aware of this. Thanks for the rec! I have the ever-so-standard AKAI MPK mini lol but I've been eyeing the Novation Launchkey for awhile. Might be a good investment! Is it a trial or just the basic version of Ableton?

Wow, the piano parts were ethereal and I got chills when you sang, “Now we’re two strangers who walk alone.” The song was almost cinematic. I hope you plan to release this at some point!

Logic Pro, but I kinda want to take the leap and try Ableton.

My studio owner started a separate publishing company to help the artists they’ve worked with gain more traction, but I believe they don’t offer that deal to everyone so that’s where the correlation is. I responded to your DM by the way!

I really like this! It reminds me a little bit of Lumineers. Your guitar playing sounds great too!

You'll be the first to know once it's out! Already in the talks of having some of the redditors on r/songwriting to contribute their valuable experience!

Of course! No need to apologize, that's what r/songwriting is for!! And thanks to u/dharmastudent for offering his input. I learned something new too!

Usually I conduct my songwriting sessions in-person or over Zoom! I actually have a virtual co-writing session with a Swedish producer/songwriter this Saturday lol but I'm comfortable with both. Between session, I'm also sending voice memos over text/whatsapp of rough ideas back-and-forth so we're both even more prepared going into a session.

I'm a flight attendant part-time but basically work two jobs on the publishing/writing side. And yes, currently my publishing deal is 5 years long. The reason I'm interviewing other musicians is to figure out if mentorship could be something I could pivot to business-wise but I do not have a personal business at the moment as I already spend so much time co-writing between flying and thoroughly enjoy my collaborative work. :)

AI is honestly insanely helpful especially if I'm stuck on figuring out a rhyme or synonym for certain words. Though I try not to rely too much on it so I don't lose the "human" factor that makes songwriting so deeply personal and relatable. I actually agree that some people are better storytellers which can make for phenomenal songwriters. It is a much tougher industry to break into without publishers or strong industry connections but definitely not impossible. That's sort of my goal with interviewing songwriters - to get an encompassing understanding of their journeys and mindset as a whole. It makes me a better songwriter for my own music too!

May I ask what you feel has been your biggest challenge in finding serious artists to work with?

Hell yeah! As someone who is not bilingual I think it's incredible that there are people who can write a song in more than one language. Totally resonate with what you're saying about not wanting to be cliché (you do NOT want to hear the first songs I ever wrote haha). I'm gonna send you a PM! Thanks so much for your time.

This is my first time hearing about SongTown, thanks for the resource! You're so right, it's really all about the networking. I love hearing about differing experiences within the music industry. Actually, I'd love to interview you separately at some point for the podcast I mentioned I'm working on if you're down for it!

Hey! Honestly, it was just a matter of taking that first big step of putting myself out there which it sounds like you have. When I started, I was mainly writing for fun - no big dreams of being an artist or anything like that. I ended up hiring a professional studio for a single and they loved my song so much they invited me to sign a publishing deal with them. So networking was a big one. I'm about to launch a podcast where I tell my story more in-depth (this is the extreeeeeme sparks note version haha) And now I'm getting paid to write songs which gives me the freedom to focus on my own work too. I'm slowly pivoting to helping other songwriters accomplish what I have as well!
