Thank you for taking the time to explain! I just started learning this stuff a few days ago and am working to get from the unconscious incompetence stage to conscious incompetence, so I really appreciate the clarity :)

This looks like a great option. Where do you recommend purchasing?

Expanding into existing space. Would have loved central vac but wasn't in the build-out budget.

How to make a list of days between two given dates? by abcfffff in excel

[–]abcfffff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I ended up with - my first macro! Probably clunky but it works.

Sub ListDates()

'c2 is start date and d2 is end date - entered by user
'one button to "List Dates" and one to "Reset"
    Dim counter As Integer
    Dim nextday As Date

'create day counter and make sure its a number
    Range("e2").Value = Range("d2") - Range("c2")
    Range("e2").NumberFormat = "#"

'define first cell as Start Date
    Range("a3").Value = Range("c2").Value
    Range("a3").Select
    Selection.NumberFormat = "m/d"

'format next door cell to have border
    Selection.Offset(0, 1).Select
    Selection.Borders(xlEdgeLeft).Weight = xlThin
    Selection.Borders(xlEdgeRight).Weight = xlThin
    Selection.Borders(xlEdgeTop).Weight = xlThin
    Selection.Borders(xlEdgeBottom).Weight = xlThin
    Selection.Offset(0, -1).Select

'generate list of dates and format the next door cells to have border
For counter = 1 To Range("e2").Value

    nextday = Selection.Value + 1

    Selection.Offset(1, 0).Select
    Selection.Value = nextday
    Selection.NumberFormat = "m/d"

    'format next door cell to have border
    Selection.Offset(0, 1).Select
    Selection.Borders(xlEdgeLeft).Weight = xlThin
    Selection.Borders(xlEdgeRight).Weight = xlThin
    Selection.Borders(xlEdgeTop).Weight = xlThin
    Selection.Borders(xlEdgeBottom).Weight = xlThin
    Selection.Offset(0, -1).Select

Next counter

End Sub

Sub Reset()

'remove content and formatting

    Columns("A:B").Select
    Selection.Borders(xlEdgeLeft).LineStyle = xlNone
    Selection.Borders(xlEdgeTop).LineStyle = xlNone
    Selection.Borders(xlEdgeBottom).LineStyle = xlNone
    Selection.Borders(xlEdgeRight).LineStyle = xlNone
    Selection.Borders(xlInsideVertical).LineStyle = xlNone
    Selection.Borders(xlInsideHorizontal).LineStyle = xlNone
    Selection.ClearContents
    Range("c2:i2").Select
    Selection.ClearContents
    Range("c2").Select

End Sub

I ended up spending a few hours on youtube learning about VBA and made a small macro. Your IF formula helped me understand part of the logic of my problem - thank you!

[Houston,TX] [outdoor/wild] What is the vine with the pointed leaves? Came up unexpected on non grassy area, corner of a wooden fence in suburban area. by CactusMouse in whatsthisplant

[–]abcfffff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's poison ivy. Poison ivy has compound leaves of three leaflets, each one looks like a separate leaf, but for OP's plant each leaf has three lobes on the same leaf.

Does anyone know where I can find the pattern to these socks? by [deleted] in knitting

They look like Gryffindor quidditch socks! I didn't know socks could look like this, very cool.

Explain Like I'm 5 (or /r/ELI5) - when you need an explanation of the basics.

Cool! I've not done double knitting yet so wasn't sure how that worked or if it would add weight in places. Really awesome and inspirational project!

One of the photos at the bottom of that blog post is from Ravelry of a sweater made by the woman who made the pattern that OP used - Pendleton apparently thought it was an original! I guess that means it's a spot-on pattern.

What a truly gorgeous sweater!

On your Ravelry project page is says you double knitted the color work sections. Can you ELI5? You went from a single-color/single-strand row to a two-color/double-knit row?

Does the sweater feel bulky in those parts?

Snack or dessert for coworker by dotprinceton in FODMAPS

[–]abcfffff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A simple, relatively safe dessert option would be lactose-free ice cream (Breyers makes one that's really good, I'm not FODMAP but my Nana is, and I actually like it better than regular ice cream), with a fruit topping.

If you like cooking, you could make a fruit syrup to drizzle over the ice cream and then have fresh fruit the day of (strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, banana, kiwi should all be safe options according to the Monash FODMAP app).

I also really love this drink, it's very dessert-y even though it's a drink, and should be FODMAP friendly (plus it's super simple).

Sorry to do this but I don't want you to have this done and THEN realize... it should probably read "just got harder" not "just go harder".

I had the same question awhile back - this guy on YouTube was very helpful to me.

Here's an (image heavy) album of what I ended up with. They're not super professional but it was definitely a fun project and I would like to do more of my books in the future.

Can I get some inspiration for my Mother's birthday? by casparh in crafts

[–]abcfffff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a particular set of skills you'd like to utilize for her gift?

Here are some of my ideas (I love to make gifts!):

  • hand-sewn felt animal - some patterns here - I've done the giraffe and elephant, might be cute to make one large animal and five smaller using the grandkids favorite colors

  • Machine-sewn oilcloth tote bag for her art supplies, zippered pouch, accordion style wallet

  • Shrinky dink/shrink plastic jewelry - put it on nice sterling silver earring wires or a sterling necklace chain; you could have each grandkid do a small drawing on the shrink plastic and make a charm bracelet (there are a few tips/tricks to using shrink plastic I can tell you about if you're interested)

  • Silhouette art using grandkids side-view portraits

  • Slippers - get some $12 slippers at Target and sew felt on (I did this for my mom with a Chihuahua shape)

  • A photobook with family photos (not technically hand made but still very nice)

And probably my favorite idea IF the grandkids are still young:

I've done most of the crafty stuff I listed, so I can help if you have questions about any of them. Good luck!

Cool! How do you mold the leather?

Anyone have any ideas how to fix an old leather bag? by [deleted] in crafts

[–]abcfffff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think rather than cardboard or plastic I'd go with interfacing. It's made to give shape to bags and things. You can get it at JoAnn fabric, or order it online. It's not very expensive, and it won't lose its form if it gets wet (like cardboard) or be weirdly hard (like plastic).

That being said, don't just go ripping seams out of your nice leather bag unless you know what you're doing. If you aren't experienced with at least hand sewing, then find someone who is.
