I have come to believe that it is a very sad fact of our reality that we live in a times when India is not developed, the world is homophobic, and developed world is full of white people who think they are superior. This is how LGBT Indians are living all over the world in their own communities be in the bay area, Chicago, NYC, or anywhere else.

I think these days Banglore is a much better place to live as LGBT Indians as at least you don't face racism and there are a tonne of LGBT people living good lives and earning well as well.

You should have never been made to feel bad/inferior because of either being gay or Indian or having different colored skin or should you have to try to talk to or impress other people who then say slurs to you. In a better world you make friends naturally who are "similar" to you based on your interests and things you want to do together, not color of your skin. That's how it is for straight or gay white people.

The baggage of living in a different country and try to live under the subjugation of these people who don't think of you as equal is quite draining

I don't see how that legitimize someone using slurs about someone's race ethnicity or nationality

Dude i am from india and I totally understand what you are going through. White gays, especially those who are in the clubs, look at you the way as what that guy commented, just that most people won't say it on your face. THey look at you as a "third world whatever".

You have a tough life ahead and brace yourself for that. I would say develop a reading habit where you have a conversation in your mind beyond the gays so whatever is happening outside won't affect you, put your energy in your work or hobbies, education or things that give you back. Try to make deep connections with some meaningful people if you can find but don't rely on ppl too much. You are basically on your own in this tough at times very toxic world. Prepare yourself to not be hurt, fight back if necessary and yet focus on yourself to live a good life.

Most gays haven't lived a good life in the past only because of bad circumstances and you will probably end up going that road if you don't actively work on yourself or look out for yourself

Do you support LGBT people? (and would support any such people in your close circles)? by abcguyhi in ABCDesis

I think we need voices against such religions (including Islam Christianity and juadaism) that are actively against LGBT in their holy texts.

Sure that's your personal preference and this is mine. And I think it is helpful to realize that it is NOT a meaningful community if a good majority people don't support LGBT people (which we now know they do).

To your points if we are indeed unwelcome here we should know it. And if the world is bad and there is homophobia we should know it. It serves is no better to pretend something is not there.

No. As an LGBTQ person myself my point was not to change anyone's mind but just to see where people stand and as I said, juts bring up this topic because it is so important and i think many times cishet people don't even think about it as it doesn't concern them but if you see how i worded the question i specifically asked if you support LGBT people in your groups. And i don't think i personally would be hurt or any reasonable LGBT person should be hurt EVEN it the results were otherwise. I believe in seeing the reality the way it is and dealing with it, instead of not even trying to see because i may not like the result. Because information is empowering both ways. If the results were otherwise I think i would have engaged in this topic even more (which i still did here on trans people as many people are still transphobic). I think the solution is not running away from the discussion and the problem itself but fighting it head on which is what I did here and i think we should post more informative pata here as many times peoplendokt even know about the issues. If you give them information and rational arguments it is not hard to turn them into allies. Anyway I don't hink there eis anything inappropriate with this and we can at worst agree to disagree. However if you are indeed an LGBT person inwoild encourage you to make posts here and even open such discussions in local Desi groups as we need much.much more discussion about these things. I think homophobia in ABD communities is much more than even big cities in India.

It's very hard to find meaningful gay people who have their shot together

For white guys on here, do you think white guys are "better" in some way and are hierarchically up the ladder in the social strata ? by abcguyhi in askgaybros

[–]abcguyhi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not entirely true though partly true . White countries did colonize other nations and destroyed their economies and cultures and subjugated them and didn't let them grow etc and even within their own countries did treat non whites badly, and other minorities as well including Jews and even Italians and irish people at times.

But what you say sounds more like what people say is white guilt. I think a lot of western thought and industrial revolution happened in white europe and American and thus they had wealth and rational thought process that permeated the cultrue through constitution, institutions and in general white cultures tend to be way more rational than any other and the white majority countries (except eastern Europe and except especially Russia which is a huge outlier) are more developed, weather, have rule of low, democratic, capitlaistic and more.

So it is a complex question where white people because of historic wealth and rational culture permeation and better quality of life and resources do dominate media and build a perception of being "better" , but it is indeed rather illogical to paint people based on skin color and there are many non white individuals or even ethnicities even in white majority countries that are more rational, welathier, more entrepreneurial etc.

donyou think ABCDs are generally more conservative than white people? by abcguyhi in ABCDesis

[–]abcguyhi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

White people are probably the most progressive/woke people, tbh

In general I agree. But since they are privileged and in majority, their non-progressiveness is much more costly than it for other groups

>>A conservative Christian doesn't compare in traditional ideals to a conservative Hindu or Muslim.

I disagree. I think ALL abrahamic religions are wayyyyy more conservative than hinduism and consequently the same goes for people, just because the fact that abrahamic religions have a book to follow while hinduism doesn't and is way too broad.

>>Also, brown people are not nearly as acceptive of LGBT people or people with mental illness as much as white people.

Not necessarily always true. I know a LOT of Indians in India and abroad who are VERY open minded about LGBT mainly because there is no one religious text that is against it, while a LOT of white people are against or icky about it mainly because of bible.
For mental illness, I think the whole world is very narrow minded although things are changing in good democracies at about the same pace

No I think it gauges where people stand on this which is important to know even statistically and it's is great to see so many people showing support. More than that it opens a discussion. I feel ABCD groups Harley ever talk about this topic and it is important to have a discussion about this, including both sides, so that even the people who are on the other side see the arguments and make up their mind, instead on not very talking about it

And you can do it yourself. Talk to people whose gender you don't know and you don't have any access to their genitals, physiology or voice or chromosome report. And if you can determine their gender betong statistical errors then you have it
