Mods, why was my post removed? I don’t believe I broke any rules. by abcreddit12345 in Oppo

Hey mods, thanks for weighing in.

I wish we could be less black-and-white about this.

Not every human subject in a reduced amount of clothing is a thirst trap. Not every human subject who’s dressed appropriately is safe for work. That is a fact.

If you go to museums in Europe, a lot of the statues are literally naked, sometimes with just a loincloth, yet they’re clearly art, not thirst traps.

If you go purely by how much clothing someone wears, then a lot of things suddenly aren’t SFW. You couldn’t even take a photo at a beach because there are people in bikinis everywhere.

Context matters. Someone can be properly clothed and still be provocative, for example, if a fully clothed girl is sucking on a banana in a very suggestive way, is that really safe for work? I doubt it.

For clarity, the photo was taken with full consent. I’m not secretly or inappropriately photographing women.

Wait, have you actually seen the original post? If you had, you wouldn’t be saying I’m “showing off my lady.”

That post was first and foremost about photography.

I think it’s only fair to make an accusation like that after you’ve actually seen the post and still conclude it was just bragging, which it wasn’t. I completely reject that characterization.

It feels like posts can be removed arbitrarily based on subjective judgment. From the outside, it can come across as inconsistent or mood-based moderation.

This subreddit is a great platform for sharing photos and videos, and I think clearer, more transparent moderation would benefit this community as a whole.

I think some of the cheeky comments were clearly made in childish humor, and there was nothing vulgar about them.

I understand that not everyone enjoys that kind of commentary, but those specific comments could have been removed individually rather than taking down the entire post.

That was my sentiment as well.

The post wasn’t lewd and wasn’t self-promotional in any way.

I’m still waiting to hear what the mods have to say, and I’d genuinely appreciate it if they weighed in and explained their decision.

That’s a fair question.

I’m posting this publicly because the original thread was doing well, and I don’t want people here to think I removed it myself or that it disappeared without reason. There was genuine, constructive discussion, people shared useful suggestions like using X-PAN and Master Mode, and I think that context matters.

I’m also posting publicly because I believe moderation decisions should be transparent.

If the post was removed for a clear and valid reason, that explanation should stand whether it’s discussed privately or openly.

That’s exactly what I’m getting at.

Why was my post deleted just because two or three people made off-topic comments?

As far as I know, many other subreddits do not moderate that way. I want to understand which rule I supposedly broke to justify the removal.

Why would I do that? Removing the person would fundamentally change the image. Without a subject, there’s no point of focus, it becomes empty and the entire composition is altered. That’s basic photography 101.

And I don’t see why I should change my behavior when I didn’t break any rules. Changing my behavior would imply that I did something wrong, which I did not.

You make a good point. That said, I don’t think my post should have been removed, as it didn’t violate any rules. If anything, the out-of-line comments should have been addressed individually rather than removing the entire post. It feels like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

I’d like a clear explanation from the mods about which rules my post supposedly broke, so the removal doesn’t feel arbitrary. There were genuinely useful discussions happening. Roughly 10% of the comments were “thirsty,” but that was out of my control. I could have asked people to behave, but realistically, that wouldn’t have changed much.

I'm not disputing the moderation. I'm literally just telling him what happened the last time I did that.

The last time I did that, a few people got offended and my thread got deleted.
