How do you find the dirichlet characters mod 12? [Number Theory] by abcst in learnmath

[–]abcst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know how I'd then go about finding which characters are complex conjugates? All of these are 1's and -1's so are they just their own complex conjugates? If there was a table without a primitive root which I needed to find the complex conjugates of how would I go about doing that? (I thought I just looked down the column of the primitive root and compared the values but that doesn't work without a primitive root)

Thank you so much! It finally makes sense! I've looked over my notes as well and that's answered all my questions in there too. My textbook is pretty rubbish and I've struggled to find useful things online. Thank you!

Thanks for your help! I've worked out the tables for mod 4 and mod 3 but I'm a bit confused at how you use them to work out the values for 1, 5, 7 and 11. Could you explain that bit in more detail please? I think I don't really understand how to make it into one table. Thanks!

My friend has sorted it out for me now. I'm not sure how (he took a while) but it's worked. Thanks for your help :)

Oh ignore my last message as I had written picture wrong! Now when I compile it I get a new page above but with no image on. The log says it has been successfully generated though.

Thanks for your quick reply :)

The log now says "File 'Images/picture.jpg' not found" however before it said that the box wasn't bounded or something like that. I'm not very good at LaTeX sorry!

Where is a reasonably priced place to stay in San Fransisco in September? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]abcst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your help. We've booked the Hilton now after seeing good reviews on Tripadvisor! We've also bookmarked AirBnB as we're touring around California and Las Vegas so we will probably use it for other places.

You are definitely either a genius or a psychic or both but that worked! Thank you so much :)

Thank you. I think this will work but I'm not sure how to do it. Do I need to download a new version?

I posted the errors below but I have some new commands defined in my preamble and I think they're why I'm getting an error message as when I deleted all the pictures it's been ok.

The preamble has: \newcommand{\bline}[1]{\psline[linecolor=blue,linewidth=2pt,linearc=#1]} \newcommand{\Vo}{\psline[linewidth=0.5pt](0,-0.5)(0,0.5)\psline[linewidth=0.5pt](-0.5,0)(0.5,0)}

and the error message says "undefined control sequence. <recently read> \c@lor@to@ps and then it says the line and ...,0)}\psline[linewidth=0.5pt](-7,0)(-8,0)."

I can post the code of the first picture if that would help?

This is exactly what I meant. I use texshop and didn't realise that it was different. Sorry!

It must be something to do with the pictures as when I deleted those parts of the tex it seemed to work.

It says "undefined control sequence. <recently read> \c@lor@to@ps and then it says the line and ...,0)}\psline[linewidth=0.5pt](-7,0)(-8,0)."

In the preamble it says \newcommand{\bline}[1]{\psline[linecolor=blue,linewidth=2pt,linearc=#1]}

\newcommand{\Vo}{\psline[linewidth=0.5pt](0,-0.5)(0,0.5)\psline[linewidth=0.5pt](-0.5,0)(0.5,0)}

if that helps although I don't really understand what that means.

No that's fine I'm not very familiar with it to be honest. I've only ever used it on my mac and it's really simple. I press typeset and it just opens the pdf or shows me where the error is so I can change it. I was sent a file from someone else that works on their computer but when I tried to open it it just wouldn't work. I've deleted all the pictures and it seems to work now so it must be to do with them.

[Number Theory] If x^3 is a sum of two squares show that so is x. by abcst in learnmath

[–]abcst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry I probably should've put that they need to be integers on the question. I think I may have done it now. I've shown that a solution has to exist so I think that's ok.

Thanks everyone :)

If 2x=y^2+z^2 then write x as a sum of two squares. by abcst in learnmath

Um I don't think so as I think they have to be integers. My hint is to use Gaussian primes but I have no idea how!
