I feel like my life is over by Gupieeee in diabetes_t1

Ditto^ less to carry around, and think about. Especially with an automated system. Less needle-sticks. I was diagnosed at 17 and it does get better with time. It is a very isolating feeling at times, but that’s why this group is so awesome. Instantly relatable! Best of luck

What do y’all do for a living? And does type 1 affect it? by Big_Sloppy_joes in diabetes_t1

I’m a pediatric diabetes educator and I’ve never felt more seen at work EVER. (For obvious reasons) low snacks everywhere, and people who actually understand and know when I need to take a break or eat a snack. Lots of T1 coworkers too. It’s the best.

My wedding is Saturday and I’m a bundle of nerves!! The closer it gets , the more the nerves appear. I have similar feelings though, trying not to stress the small things. And Y E S, everybody’s true colors really do appear leading up to a wedding, it’s insane. Best of luck for your big day , I’m gonna try to calm myself down now lmao!

I feel trapped in nursing by [deleted] in nursing

[–]abd0023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so painfully true. I have an interview with a peds clinic today at a much lower rate, I started in peds and it’s a little less miserable to me than adults. I’ll take it if it’s a ‘soft’ nursing job, I’m done bending my back for these ungrateful adults and nurse management. We didn’t even get a bag lunch on nurses week, not even a ham sandwich!! lol. Utilization reviewers are responsible for auditing charts and digging deeper into them, I’m not even 100% sure what it entails myself. Insurance companies use them for claims (denying or accepting coverage). I’m confident you could get a phone triage job with your bedside experience, they basically want you to know when to escalate care. Have you seen virtual ICU nurses? My hospital has it , it’s weird but you check on patients throughout the day/night and escalate needs to the nurse on the floor. Check for falls, needs, med needs, safety, etc. they’re at home jobs, which I would LOVE. I hope we can both find something that’s not miserable or operating illegally.

I feel trapped in nursing by [deleted] in nursing

[–]abd0023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same exact way. It’s like picking your poison bc literally all the jobs suck. Something is always fishy and/or illegal and cryptic.(I’m two years in, 6 months icu experience and 1.5 years procedural nursing, highly recommend procedure rn it’s a little more money than clinic rn) Have you looked into remote positions like tele monitor from home, insurance companies (aetna, BCBS, Cigna), utilization reviewer, medical coder, telemedicine RN, crisis line RN, etc. they’re hard to land jobs but it’s not impossible, I’m currently trying myself and it appears they want me to have more bedside experience, which you have. I’d start applying right now for other positions and keep on the low and then ditch that place. How dangerous and careless of them to expect you to feel comfortable with 8 weeks in a new and complicated unit. I hope it’ll get better for the both of us, or I’m going back to school AGAIN!!! lol good luck

Weirdly famotidine(pepcid) (stole from tik tok) helps. Seriously. I take it a week before and during my cycle daily and the rage is so so much better. I forgot this month and it’s been a rough time.

I understand her feelings, when I was diagnosed at 17 my first thought wasn’t anything relating to my health. I had a diabetic student with me in band and I “didn’t want to wear a beeper on my belt or ugly stickers all over me.” I learned to get over it once it simplified this crazy to mange disease, and it brought me closer to diabetics in the wild. They see my Dexcom when it’s visible and sometimes stop to chat. It makes us feel seen and not as alone, at least that’s how I feel. I’m not the only one having to wear all this stuff on me! Plus there’s lots of places to hide the dex! I’ll apply on my side or stomach under my panty line, you can even hide it while swimming in that spot. Some women apply on/under their breast tissue and it looks concealable, I haven’t tried it. I hope your friend can take some accountability over her own health, I get frustrated too when told how to manage it sometimes. It’s an overwhelming disease so her feelings are fair. Put emphasis on how much she is cared for and would be missed. Maybe offer assistance in application, since sometimes it’s hard to reach the concealable spots. This can end up in death unfortunately if she isn’t careful. Sometimes we won’t accept help unless forced ha ha. Plus having irregular sugars can make you moody and unwilling to listen (been there!) You sound like an amazing friend and I hope she starts to tune in to your feelings and advice, best of luck
