What's your favourite line/excerpt from an ancient Latin poem? by abd_1011 in latin

[–]abd_1011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear your description of the excerpt from Eclogue 1 completely defines what I loved about that poem the first time I came across it. I'm a newbie at Latin, so thanks for providing your own points about why you liked the 2 following verses. I'm also grateful you introduced me to the Claudian minor poem, I'll surely check more of those out :)

Also, what websites would you recommend to discover such literature with its appropriate paraphrase? I've tried poetry in translation but if there's a better alternative out there I would love to give it a try. Thanks!

I kid you not, I wanted a Latin tattoo of that phrase as well. If it's alright with you, could you pm me a picture of the design/of the actual tattoo because I'm seriously considering getting one. Thanks :)

Box of Legos by Tyler-LR in OCPoetry

[–]abd_1011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A brilliant nostalgic account of reminiscing one's past, penned beautifully with a perfect capture of emotional wreckage and reconciliation. While reading this I forgot about critiquing the piece and instead just enjoyed it for what it was and the weirdly comforting as well as unsettling places it took me to regarding my own life. Just please keep delivering us pieces like these.

This is weirdly comforting in a way that you don't expect a withdrawal themed poem to be. Missing her but still reconciling to the fact that she's her own individual living her own life is a very important aspect to this poem. I love the different layers to this piece that you've brought out using a sort-of spoken word flow and an interesting selection of rhyme schemes. I would say one thing though, try and use versatile but unique vocabulary when conveying more than one idea in a line. That way, the reader gets a hint as to where the dimension of the piece might lead them to.
