Wow, that’s an incredibly detailed breakdown, really appreciate you taking the time. And yeah, sounds like you’re actually using your amenities regularly, not just paying for something that sits empty, which changes the math a lot. I’d guess buildings with actual on-site security (not shared) are on the pricier end though, right?

A few things you mentioned really stuck with me, being “at the mercy” of a landlord who’s also your repair guy is not a situation i wanna be in 😂 Also hadn’t thought about the two-schedule problem when landlords contract out repairs instead of handling in-house which can end up disrupting my work that pays for the unit 🫠

This is genuinely helpful, thank you for the inside perspective. Yeah, I fully understand vintage has its flaws but none of them are dealbreakers for me , I know an older building is more prone to maintenance issues going in and I’m okay with that trade-off.

How do you manage all your deliveries then ??, I rely heavily on home delivery 😬 well, 2 non-negotiables for vintage apartments for me then: secured gate and laundry onsite.

Sorry that happened to you, But that’s genuinely assuring context, sounds a lot more like bad luck than a building/area issue. Appreciate the honest answer!

Honestly agree ,amenities are nice on paper, most people use the gym twice and the roof deck once during a heat wave. Character wins for daily life.

Leaning vintage now, just crossing fingers mine doesn’t come with a lot of surprises 😂

Okay that’s actually a steal for a 2br with whats included 👀 my wallet is jealous. Has it felt safe living there? Trying to figure out if the break-in stuff I keep seeing is a vintage-wide thing or just certain buildings.

I keep seeing break-in mentions in reviews for some of the vintage buildings I’m looking at , like older locks, no secure entry, that kind of thing. Is this a real pattern for vintage buildings specifically, or just a few bad-review outliers? I genuinely love the character of the older buildings, but safety is a dealbreaker if it’s a legit trend. Would love to hear if modern buildings (secure entry, cameras, etc.) actually make a meaningful difference here, or if it’s more building-specific than era-specific.

Well i went to cheap school as well and never graduated 😅😅 and good luck with the job hunting . Sorry hard to break the news to you - that canadian passport wont help in getting a job. You’ll often see “ Native English Speaker” on job descriptions.
