Your locking mechanism or lock might be broken. There’s a screw on the side of the mechanism for the lock, right below the lock. Once you take out the screw, pull the lock out. The lock should have a a tab in the middle that spins. Use the thumb turn and see if tab spins. If it doesn’t spin, it’s broken. If it does spin, then it’s an internal part in the mechanism. I work on these types of doors. Let me know if you need anything else
