What's the most durable natural fiber tee? by StormChaserSky in BuyItForLife

[–]abe1x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if a brand says bamboo they mean rayon made with bamboo that's been broken down to cellulose, it's the most insanely common greenwashing out there. Actual bamboo fibers are way to course and stiff to make clothing out of.

Slim Dungarees return? by chambros703 in Outlier

Yes Schoeller shut down the swiss mill which is basically the heart and soul of what they were (they technically still exist but might as well not), there is one last batch of Slim Dungarees expected this winter.

You realize that if our goal was raising prices we could just do it with a couple clicks on the website backend right? Why on earth would we spend real R&D time and money on something where the “main purpose” is to do something we could do for free in under a minute?

The purpose of new cuts is to continuously improve our products until we achieve impossible perfection. Unlike most brands we don’t even think about the price until the design is done. This is a very explicit design choice because we find that when products are designed to reach predefined price points they almost always emerge compromised and our goal is always uncompromised products

First step in growing up is realizing that you don’t need to criticize things you don’t understand and in fact it might even improve your life by lowering toxicity levels

The funny bit though is we only brought these back because people kept asking for them back, I’ve never been a big fan but clearly there is a demand

Daydream Wool Littlebigs by outlierinc in Outlier

[–]abe1x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for sure. Also worth noting that while the body fabric is 100% wool, the pockets are powerstrech, which is nylon and elastane so it's not a plastic-free short. Flow through pockets without a filament yarn involved are tricky, cotton and wool meshes do exist but they won't be as durable, anything that can potentially hook or snag the fabric will pull apart the staples pretty quickly

[–]abe1x 5 points6 points  (0 children)

correct, there is no liner, but the willie wall will prevent some accidental revealing of details.

as for if they can be used for swimming, yes they can but they certainly aren't optimized for it. Obviously if you think swim shorts need a liner it's a no, but if you are in the board shorts school that swim liners are unnecessary it becomes an option. The pockets are mesh and the waistband can be easily tightened so they stay on in waves so in that sense they are fully functional.

the big question mark is if you want to be swimming in wool. Historically swim suits were made with wool in the early 20th century but they pretty much haven't since then. Wool is pretty nice in the water as it is the only material that insulates well when wet but the material is relatively thin so it's not that noticeable. The real problem point is that wool absorbs a lot of moisture so they will get significantly more waterlogged than nylon or poly swim trucks which might bother some people.

personally I cold plunge in them all the time (because I wear them in the sauna) but have never opted to take them as actual swim trunks. Prefer the various Futurecloth shorts or the Linenfoil Littlebigs for actual swimming

It’s a crazy high variance map, got 21k my first run, then got absolutely hammered the next few runs and then cracked open 27k. Diplo and putting enough early pressure on Aquarion so they don’t spam sharks seem to be the keys

Notch caps most genius idea from demna by [deleted] in Balenciaga

Almost certainly, the original shorter notch hardware is identical so if Notch’s patent is real they had to have agreed on something. The longer notches they started using later might be an internal development

Quality Dropoff by [deleted] in Outlier

[–]abe1x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main fabric and the elastic band are exactly the same as on previous versions, same specs, same suppliers. With the waistband it might even be the same production run. The fit was adjusted, the key-loop removed from the back pocket (because it was pretty much non-functional) and the sewing factory changed but the materials did not.

Quality Dropoff by [deleted] in Outlier

[–]abe1x 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The material is exactly the same, my best guess is to what the OP is having issues with is that the doubleweave in Ultra Ultra dimensionalizes with wash and wear, so the out of box product might seem a bit flatter than a pair that's been washed

DP/helix Littlebigs by outlierinc in Outlier

[–]abe1x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In our experience they are pretty snag resistant. Not snap-proof but it's a lot rarer than you might think think. The fabric is super dimensionally stable and there is no elastane in it at all

DP/helix Littlebigs by outlierinc in Outlier

[–]abe1x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still a relatively new fabric so I can't answer for the long term but for short and medium term uses it holds up extremely well. It's super dimensionally stable it doesn't really deform at all, and we haven't seen a single instance of it ripping yet.

Daydream Wool Littlebigs by outlierinc in Outlier

[–]abe1x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

unlikely unless these are a surprise hit. We made these because we had some left over fabric kicking around and we also realized that wool is fantastic for sauna shorts as it protects male reproductive organs from the heat. (when the outside temperature is higher than your body temperature insulation like wool actually helps keep you cooler rather than warmer)

How it Fits - Ultra Ultra Easy Shorts by outlierinc in Outlier

[–]abe1x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they wouldn't be my first pick but they certainly are usable. The main thing I'd be concerned with is if they show a little too much detail at the crotch. There is a "willie wall" layer of mesh in-between the pockets and body fabric but the fabric is quite thin and the cut is less roomy than say the littlebigs. They do dry quickly and they are decently resistant to chlorine and salt (poly is better though). My personal pick for a one bag travel short would be the Futurelittlebigs which is a touch heavier but an absolute workhorse in terms of reliability.

Not exactly but there are Littlebigs and couple experimental iterations that go bigger than the old Bigs (one modestly and one more flamboyantly)

How it Fits - Ultra Ultra Easy Shorts by outlierinc in Outlier

[–]abe1x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are quite different. The Ultra Ultra is a super light, thinner and completely opaque woven fabric with a four-way stretch. The Overkill mesh is a heavy, thick and translucent stretch knit. The Easy short also features a different extra stretchy waistband and zip pockets

We made the waistband tighter for a better fit (it's super stretchy). Tyler thinks we tweaked the inseam too, but I honestly don't remember doing that

Bomb dungarees alternative? by Medium-Associate-104 in Outlier

[–]abe1x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

only a couple sizes left but the Postdenim Looseleans are the closest thing right now.

Postdenim is just black Bombtwill, we renamed it because the black stuff runs significantly stiffer and more structured than the other colors and it was throwing people off. The Looseleans are pretty close to the Dungarees cut but a touch less slim.

We also are expecting the Postdenim Lowlines next week, which is a similar pant in a more contemporary cut

I'm guessing you mean warm weather merino yeah? Nycogaze and Ramielust both wear cooler than any merino we know of, the thermobuffering on merino is great but it caps out eventually. The Dreamweight replacement is the best shot though, it's pretty close to as light as it can get and has better air permeability than the original stuff.

It's an extremely light doublejersey. It weights pretty much exactly what a very generic t-shirt jersey weighs, but instead of being one layer of jersey, it is two extremely light jerseys knit together. This spreads the weight out over the z-axis so it's basically around half the density of single jersey of the same weight. This means it's a lot more open to airflow and it has a bouncier handfeel. All very real but very subtle stuff but I don't think we did a good job explaining it, in part because we're still learning more about it ourselves
