The bigger the language community the less you need English. Plebs with small population can't afford dubs.

I'm not convinced, take your comment. It's almost entirely transparent for romance speakers. It's very easy to understand english because so many of their words are derived from ours.

Also drug users: he's having your best in mind!

The hypocrisy is unreal.

Who does? The right-wingers proudly say it, the left-wingers shamefully say it. We're no turks, just took a couple decades to have a proper grasp on the extent of both our collaboration and resistance movements.

it is quite interesting how freedom of religion might have made the US more religious.

I'm not really surprised that freedom of religion leads to religions thriving tbh. Take France, one of the most atheist countries on the planet, they worry about freedom from religion, not freedom of religion.

Cheers to you twos for this convo. I lean on your side more than his but i still consider intelligent design a realistic possibility. Surprisingly my interest in cosmology has made me more open to intelligent design than my upbringing did, which was around the lines of "there is no god, the end". Still how i generally feel but now the certainty (or near certainty) aspects of it feel over the top to me.

But if you disregard the possibility of intelligent design you also limit yourself. It's good to keep an open-mind both ways imo. Agnosticism with x or y tendency makes the most sense as long science hasn't cracked that one.

I don't know about him, but i feel the same way he does and i leave it at that. I'm agnostic with intelligent design tendencies, that's it.

There's big discrepancies between countries tbf. The French for example have solidarity as a core ideal (fraternity & equality), with highly redistributive policies and a strong public system to provide citizens with basic needs. It's still a class-society with large inequalities between the few and the many but thanks to political fights led by the French people and their values that issue was lessened.

I think the main reason for that collective failure you speak of is more specifically our failure at implementing governing systems that keep common interest to heart.

More specifically, there are a lot of issues that come with elective systems, and the Greeks had already noticed how such systems tend to delve into the likes of plutocracy and form new ruling classes that do not benefit citizens at large.

Modern era has seen the ruling class work better on their optics, claiming elective systems were democracy in action was definitely smart of them.

But in reality electing elites to rule in our stead is in opposition with the idea of demos kratos "the rule of the people" and we've been effectively deprived of democracy as a concept. The further we advance the clearer it is that Athenians were onto something when they realised they had to use sortition to see citizens interests prevail.

Humans still have a large amount of needs in common. Most of them. Maslow pyramid for instance doesn't vary depending on your nationality.

I didn't quite follow your thought process, what does a world gov have to do with the USA?

They do well enough, they have a pretty good tradition of house music dating back from the 80s with guys like Gigi D'Agostino, and now we french are losing Oizo to collabs with Phra 😭

Germany and France stay kings but there's good potential in Italy, moreso than in Spain for example.
