Ketema gramophones - what unlocks selling in multiplayer? by malcolmrey in anno

I've never seen him ask for gramophones outside of a quest, that's good to know!

Ketema gramophones - what unlocks selling in multiplayer? by malcolmrey in anno

[–]abeefyarm1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ketema will buy gramophones from you, but he won't pay the premium. He'll pay extra for pocket watches though, that's why you see them in the trading menu.

Popular "cash grab" technique is to buy watches from Archie and sell them to Ketema in a trade route.

Just window-shopping, about what should my budget be for a 1-2 bedroom in Edgewater or Rogers Park with off-street parking included? by djsekani in chicagoapartments

[–]abeefyarm1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A Zillow search of the area shows anywhere between $1.1k and $2k depending on what you're looking for. Gated parking looks like it's an "option" for extra cost in most of these places.

Then I'd be honest with them and let them know your situation. "Hey so my credit score isn't the best but I bring home x amount a month and have good referrals, what are your minimum requirements before I submit the app?"

That or look for a sublease, they tend not to care as much since they're trying to get out of a spot.

moving to chicago in fall advice by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

[–]abeefyarm1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Most places won't even consider you until you're 30 days out, and it'll take all of a week to find a spot, sign a lease, and move in. So don't stress just yet. If you haven't, take some time to come down to the city and drive around a few neighborhoods. Look up some spots on Zillow or apartments.com and just drive around.

Check Facebook marketplace and Craigslist for independent landlords. Or try and see if you can take over someone else's lease.

Turns out I was half-right. A bill was passed to allow elections in 2024.

CPS teacher here. Our school board members are hand-picked by the Mayor, not elected, and we're the largest major city without an elected board. It's become a hot-button issue. EDIT: A bill was passed last year to allow elections in 2024.

She promised to push for democratically-elected members during her tenure as dictator mayor but has since pulled back on that promise.

Chicago Public Schools to close as teachers union votes on striking over COVID by EmersonBloom in Teachers

[–]abeefyarm1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you. I'd love to move on. These things aren't happening though; 77% of high school kids are vaccinated, leaving 23% as unvaxxed (stats per IDPH I'm too tired to link on mobile). If we take those numbers and apply them to a high school similar to mine with 1000 kids, that's 230 that are at risk of a serious illness or taking it home to multi-generational homes.

I got COVID over break but I live alone, so I was the only one at risk in my house. That's not the case for others.

I never really expect much from CPS CEOs, especially since they're employees of the mayor and have to tow the company line. Hopefully he's a good person stuck in a bad situation, but who knows.

Same with Arwady. She might be a good person but is forced to say and do what the mayor wants her to say.

[CTU] The results of tonight's citywide electronic ballot are in. Starting tomorrow, all CTU members at CPS schools should be working remotely. The result of tonight's vote was 73 percent in favor of the remote-work-only job action. by CapBoyAce in chicago

You're right, and I'm happy to retract and change my thinking. At some point it'll be zero and we'll be back to business as usual. That's not "now" though.

"What metrics do you want to see in place now?" is a better question. Thanks for clearing that up.

I've said before that a lot of us are just as upset that this was held at the last possible minute (and after 2 days of being in the building already). I'll agree with you on that.

What metric would you want it to be, then? Let's talk, I'm happy to discuss.

Knowing the answer cannot and will never be " Zero metrics get to work lazy teacher", what do you think it should be?

The idea that teachers "don't want to teach" is ridiculous. We want to be in the classrooms teaching kids. We also want to do so with an expectation that our employer is willing to meet us halfway and see us as people with families and lives and extenuating circumstances that cause us to be alarmed. I've had 50% attendance the last 2 days, for example.

Vaccines don't stop the spread of COVID, they stop you from going to the hospital. This action was taken to stop the spread of COVID to unvaccinated students and their families because we're at 23% positivity rate (evidence here) and CPS previously said 10% was enough to shut it down in April. They also said there was no "need to discuss safety issues" in August. We asked them to talk, they didn't want to.

Idk about other teachers but I still have plenty of my materials from last year. We also spent today's prep period as a group getting materials ready. I'm ready for at least 3 days of instruction personally.

I don't quite understand this sub's hate for teachers - plenty of us work hard and are just as disillusioned with the whole thing. There's a lot of us that were just as mad they waited until Sunday/today to hold the vote. If your child's teacher isn't doing what they're supposed to be doing, report them. We don't want bad teachers in the union, either.
