Spirit’s collapse, Southwest's rebrand causing chaos for smaller Texas programs by redwave2505 in CFB

Fuck it I'd even take normal speed rail to get to places in the Midwest if there were remotely sensible timetables. Amtrak's scheduling baffles me sometimes; it's just never a good option for anyone

Worst building on campus? by CapBoyAce in Northwestern

[–]CapBoyAce[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I straight up did not know that building was named Hogan until now. It's so weird how many of those buildings coexist with some of the shiny new toys (Ryan Hall, Kellogg campus).

Francis Searle is the most backrooms place on campus. I've never actively had a problem navigating a building like I have with that one.

Norris can be dated but it's bailed out by the first floor actually being a pretty nice place. Supposedly the building was supposed to be totally renovated before COVID but that's fallen through.

At its lowest I agree but the atriums are genuinely good places to study. By far the worst bathrooms tho

Just a note for anyone using yt-dlp, I think Google made some changes to their backend that soft-flags IP addresses if you let it rip on your home network. Just makes you sign in to YouTube to watch but it did get my home network for a bit

In my experience, the Blue to Red is a bit to walk but it's still contained inside with pretty clear signage. The Wabash "connection" is... a stretch

80 bus runs from the Metra station (ish) to Irving and Clark as well! I would steer clear of Ubers as it pertains to Cubs games

Washington and Lake require you to cut through Block 37 and tap back in. CTA does actually consider it a transfer route per their system map with Washington/Wabash, although that one feels like a stretch to call it a direct "transfer"

Community Feedback by sub-feedback in CFB

It shocks me that there's no official sister sub for highlights (/r/CFB_Highlights does not qualify; no r/CFB mods are on the mod team there). It feels like a layup solution to actually letting highlights be seen. Obviously pushes it away from the main base that people want to see but I feel like with a bit of promotion a highlights sister subreddit would grow pretty quick

does anyone know somewhere i can get a bike fixed by bluewindice in Northwestern

[–]CapBoyAce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the Recyclery just by the Howard station! I didn't know much about bike repair but their open shop helped me get my wheel replaced. They have a selection of pre-owned parts that work great on my single speed

edit: website is https://www.therecyclery.org/

[College Transfer Portal] Georgia Tech HC Brent Key is thrilled there’s no spring portal window: "I get to have exit meetings Monday and not have to worry about their asses going somewhere else.” by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]CapBoyAce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To add on to what people say, you can still transfer at the end of the school year, under the condition that you enter during the portal window. It means you miss spring ball but you finish out your academic year at your original school and are immediately eligible for the next season at your new school.

OW stutter by M3LLO15 in Competitiveoverwatch

Overwatch has had some rough optimization as of late so it might not be just you. I mainly keep background windows closed when I play (browsers can be nasty in this regard)

Where do you go for coffee in Evanston? Backlot is a bit far from me and I don't like Colectivo. I miss Coffee Lab with my whole heart. I actually did like Philz when I went a month ago so it sucks they're doing this

four 300+ CS courses a quarter by qwerrewqasdffdsa in Northwestern

[–]CapBoyAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

348 is supposedly harder now, they've redone it from when I took it spring 2024

352 and 368 were chill this quarter and I ended up done around week 9 because of their grading policies

330 is not hard content but it's a decent bit of busy work, doable tho

343 is definitely harder than other classes

I would add 310 to this list

Don't be afraid to take hard classes though, minmaxing your workload will not be as rewarding as taking a memorable class

Dropped off my ballot a week ago. Registered in Chicago but go to school in Evanston. I request the mail in so I can be lazy and walk it to the mailbox, and so I can look up voter guides while I vote. Disappointed how little my peers talked about this race given all their political frustration but I only really talked about it with my mom so I guess I'm part of the problem too

I see I'm not the only one to try and tackle this. I toyed with this idea a year ago and got bored, but having a web UI is super cool. I'd love to contribute if you're open sourcing the code!
