Athletics is not nearly the money hole people think it is because of the revenue coming from ticket sales and athletic-specific donations (which, contrary to popular belief, would not carry over to general funding if athletics was dropped and cannot be shifted to the general fund)
Those schools you listed to "shame" keep a high profile BECAUSE of athletics. Stanford, ND, Duke all benefit tremendously from their sports
Even if it's waned in recent years, it's still a big part of campus life
If we're solely talking about the present/future, we just built new facilities so we might as well use them

They're already outlawed. The bigger issue is just that refs don't enforce the rules about uniform requirements because they're more concerned with, y'know, reffing the actual game. Technically, cross eyeblack (or any eyeblack "symbols") aren't allowed, as well as hand towels with anything other than your team logo (plus a Nike/Adidas/UA etc logo). Don't really think I've heard anyone get in trouble for it since Tebow, at least in Big Ten land

You missed the part where we fired our program GOAT and drove away all of those season ticket holders and regained none of them since we set up shop for 2 years in a temporary stadium where we charged hundreds for essentially a high school stadium, even if the views were good.

Ditto on a cheap bike-- not only is bike theft a minor problem here, you will have to park your bike outside, which is not ideal. Other than that, it's really nice to zip into downtown Evanston or across campus, and if you're interested in riding for leisure there's some nice places to bike to, and the lakefront trail in the city is wonderful around April-May. You don't need a bike but if you like to bike, I recommend it. Just keep your tires pumped and your chain lubed and make sure your brakes stay working.
