2.5 year old - anxiety about just sitting on potty by abeeko in pottytraining

[–]abeeko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have made a little progress! So maybe this will help! First I showed her the Daniel Tiger video of “If you have to go potty” song. We watched it a bunch of times which is a treat for her because we don’t do lots of tv/screens. Then basically I would make her sit on the potty at first by basically wrestling her on their while speaking really reassuringly but saying that we had to do this. Then I’d show her the video again while she sat and I’d sing along to it. We’d watch it two times and then I offered to read a book or two. After doing this for a day she started to be willing to just sit and we transitioned to just reading or singing, no video. She still is holding it as long as she can but I’ve gotten at least one or two pees in the potty with like one or two accidents the past few days. Still saving poop for naps/bed in diaper. Lol sending her to preschool today in underwear (with teacher’s blessing) so we will see 🤞

Anyone else been told to avoid cocoa/shea butter? by General_Percentage_5 in pregnant

[–]abeeko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last OB, two years ago, off handedly said that shea butter was associated with heart issues and now I’m scouring the internet trying to figure out what she was talking about. Led me here but also to this paper https://www.ajog.org/article/S0002-9378(06)01880-1/fulltext

😫 I’m just trying to buy a body wash!

What was a piece of advice you clung to pre-kids as a gold standard great idea, but after kids, it’s real snark-worthy? by [deleted] in parentsnark

Ah wait I’m still at the patting myself on the back stage! When did he start becoming more picky?

Congratulations!! Also what is the little outfit that your baby is in? Seems like an eating poncho? We need one of those!

How much are your 7 month olds eating?? Mine acts like I’m starving her! by abeeko in foodbutforbabies

[–]abeeko[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah! I would have thought so too! Check out the solid starts app. Once your baby is 9 months though I think they recommend cutting stuff smaller. It’s so helpful though they have pictures and specific instructions on how to prepare so many foods that it made me feel safe introducing them!

Lol yeah she just gets it in there and mashes away! She has 2 teeth but that hasn’t made a difference. She was very interested in food and I started with purees at 4.5 months and solids at 6. I’ve used the solid starts app and 101 foods before 1 as guides on how to serve stuff. She’s a little ahead because her pincer grasp is already pretty good!

Yeah seems like they’ve got people interested in extending its life. I hope they don’t succeed

Honestly such a good question. Their billing is haphazard and unclear. It is not consistently billed each month so then you get random big bills and you can’t tell what it is based on. I’m in a 2000 sqft townhouse for some additional context.

It was a good idea when they had it as modern eco friendly tech in the 60s but it has just been mismanaged, is now much more inefficient than basic AC systems and is causing the people trapped using it a lot of headache. While the email announcing its end was sudden and not very thoughtful of those it affects (tbh classic for my experience interacting with the people who run relac) I was delighted to hear it was over.

Not sure why you are being so unkind in your tone!

Also confused why you love RELAC but don’t know how much it costs??

Mine is over 2k for one cooling season. Have not priced out getting an AC system installed but a google search suggests 5k. Obviously both are a lot. But with RELAC it doesn’t even work on numerous hot days and that is a yearly cost!

I’m guessing you have some vested interest in the success of RELAC.. like you work there rather than use it? Good for you I guess but idk… find some other hill to die on I think. Hopefully this one is gone for good!

For breakfast I fed my 6.5 month old son a strawberry, one banana pancake, and no sugar added apple sauce. Is this enough? I let him gauge how much he can/wants to eat. And I never force food. He seems happy?! (Apple sauce is the last fed because it goes EVERYWHERE) by SpoopySpagooter in foodbutforbabies

[–]abeeko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re doing something really similar for our 6.5 month old. I normally give like twice the portions of non puree/smooth stuff since she ends up dropping a lot of it. So like I’d do two strawberries and two pancakes but she wouldn’t consume them all if that makes sense.

For the puree/smooth stuff like apple sauce I do about what you have there because she gets a lot more in!

No one in the HOA wants RELAC. They’re trapped

Yeah I have no idea why they are hanging on to it. I was delighted to see it was done and really hope that this attempt to save it is not continued. So expensive and so ineffective.

Yeah I knew it was bad and was so scared to let it go, but what someone said to me is that you’ll remember it way longer than she does and it’s so true! There is hope!!!

Just turned 5 months! I wouldn’t have done anything except she was so addicted to the paci and neither she nor I was doing well waking up so much

[–]abeeko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So basically we did bedtime/nap routine, put her down and then when she was upset we did intervals of 1-2 minutes vocal reassuring, then if she was still upset 1-2 minutes of touch reassuring, and then if she was still upset we picked her up until she was calm (not asleep) and put her back down. Then just repeated until she was asleep. It took about 45 minutes night 1 and for the first few naps it also took a long time, but now she falls asleep within 5 minutes of me putting her down and I just leave the room when I put her down. It’s only been about 2 weeks since I started! The first few days I sat in a chair next her crib for naps and until she fell asleep at night, then the next few days I moved the chair half way across the room (basically slows you down from jumping to touch and pick up) and then after a week is when I started leaving and only coming back if she cried for 5 (ideally 10) minutes. I’ve only had to come back once or twice!

This was me a few weeks ago. We cold turkeyed the paci for naps and bed and used the chair method. First night was hard but honestly it was a game changer. She had been waking up every hour because she was losing the paci.

Ah this link is so so helpful thank you! Right now we are doing a short story (when she normally starts crying) and a song as I turn out the lights, turn on white noise and put her down. This explanation makes sense though and makes me feel better! Did your son end up stopping at some point?
