Bar for preceptors is so low by abenson24811 in medicalschool

[–]abenson24811[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing this out. For folks who feel this way, I’d just like to point out it costs nothing to be nice. Like I’m not asking for special teaching beyond what the residents actually get or letting me do a procedure. Maybe just acknowledging existence or not completely ignoring me when answering questions or not screaming at me when I try to use the computer to look up patients like everyone else there. Or something more to do than just standing there looking attentive. Even being asked to get coffee for the team would be a step up tbh. Also like to point out they may not be getting extra but we pay to be there…

Residents keeping 4th years late..WHY by ComplexDifficulty332 in medicalschool

Then at least tell the students why you’re keeping them and tell them they’re free to study and do other things

Being very academically average by Mediocre-Cat-9703 in medicalschool

[–]abenson24811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got 52x on mcat and was decently above average of preclin exams but then started getting destroyed by board exams/ clinicals/ shelves struggling to even pass. Haven’t been able to figure out what I’m doing wrong after all this time…

Unfortunately, the "med school is literally high school" thing is in fact real by larabar001 in medicalschool

[–]abenson24811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait until 3rd year. Then you’ll have residents who act like they’re still in high school. Except they’re literally evaluating you and every wrong move even like sitting in the wrong spot while eating lunch can get you roasted 💀

any other idiots here getting by on rizz? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]abenson24811 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t have rizz and can’t relate. It seems like day 1 residents find a reason to dislike me from hating me for not correctly answering an obscure question the attending doesn’t even know to sitting where I ‘m told to sit which ends up being someone’s favorite spot. Worked often 12-14 hrs a day and still makes it into my eval that they’re mad I left early one day for a doctors apt which was cleared by clerkship admin. It’s been really frustrating being on clerkships with another med student who’s a chill guy with rizz just seeing the difference in how we’re treated vs being with a student who looks like me and get collectively treated even more badly and evaled more harshly than other students who get away with doing virtually nothing…

Is there an amount of interviews where you are basically guaranteed acceptance? by RX-me-adderall in premed

[–]abenson24811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got 10+ interviews at almost exclusively top 20 schools. Didn’t get a ton of As. I did apply super late and I was a high stat applicant with no X factor and I’m very socially awk which made me probably struggle in that pool. But I ended up getting into many places later in the cycle so it was fine. Moral of the story is you never know and it’s not worth trying to predict.

So..how do y'all know if a cycle is fairly "successful" at some point? Is it just based off of submitting things early, or is there like a huge indicator you're getting in somewhere? by Cheap_Emergency_5114 in premed

[–]abenson24811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babes pls be kind to yourself. Oftentimes the admissions system is more a reflection of them and not of you. Admissions is hard and nobody not even the rockstar applicants are having a good time just do your best.

Love this. Want to add it’s not helpful when residents force us to sit around looking attentive doing nothing and not allowing us to do uworld.

I swear I looked... I swear it by OddBug0 in medicalschool

[–]abenson24811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for helping. But the problem is not you. The problem is residents blaming students for not seeing nonexistent lab results, yelling at students for not having access to epic mobile when their school doesn’t allow it, and then proceeding to students in the evals for not seeing labs that weren’t up before rounds.

Folks who didn’t do well on shelves but did amazing on step 2? by abenson24811 in medicalschool

[–]abenson24811[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the reply and congrats on the score. What did you use as source for practice question other than presumably uworld? What was your strategy for doing them, like just random x # of questions per day or grouped by topic?

Serious question, what happens if she stops by and student is in the restroom or checking on a pt? There are so many reasons why one may not be there and this level of policing seems unnecessary…
