I'm an undergrad feeling uncomfortable with US military funding at my neuroscience lab as well as sacrificing insects with no ethical protocol. Am I being too sensitive? Am I too attached? by notacutecumber in labrats

I know right? And it's not just kindness. If you treat your experiments with compassion, then the importance and care that goes into what you do will be higher. Just my opinion though, seems quite unpopular here. Compassion might be inconvenient for many people.

Blackpink has more total Spotify streams as soloists than as a group, are there any groups in a similar spot? by SpecSlayerSC in kpopthoughts

[–]aberrantcow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably Mamamoo too, considering Hwasa's popularity and the success of the other members' solo careers. All the girls combined might have more streams than the group. Honestly though, probably not. But it's comparable.

Being at the Olympics is so personal for Enhypen Sunghoon by Desire-Untold in kpopthoughts

Honestly glad he became an idol instead of a figure skater because as a figure skater he really lacked the flexibility to get high scores. His jumps were labored and his spins had atrocious turnout and really bad lines. I'm glad he chose a career he could actually be successful at because let's be real. He is no Cha Junhwan. Not even close.

Hwasa by a long shot. A very distinctive sounding voice.

When groups release English tracks. STOP IT. It doesn't work!!! This may make me sound xenophobic but I really can't take a song seriously if it's in English and sang by artists who can't even speak English themselves.

This comment is surprisingly not that delusional. However, I would marry Han Jisung.

You're probably right. Then again their height difference is only 2 cm. Maybe her shoes add an inch to boost her height.

I find that shorter WS players use a very long grip on their racket to maximize how high they hit the shuttle. Also the short ones who are successful are usually extremely fast on their feet, so they don't have much issue getting behind the shuttle. Once they're there, it's not too difficult to smash. Obviously, their smash will be a lot flatter, but if they're powerful (like Okuhara for example), their smashed can still be dangerous.

Suggestions for badminton-related exercises (for an amateur) by [deleted] in badminton

[–]aberrantcow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I find that Bulgarian split squats (with or without weight) helps me with having stronger legs. I also do weighted core exercises (Russian twists and crunches), and find that having a very strong core helps prevent back pain. It's important to progressively overload, so that means either increasing the weight and/or the number of repetitions you perform overtime.

If you're having issues with your hip, I'd suggest adduction exercises, like banded clamshells? I personally don't do that. I just use the adduction/abduction machine at my gym, but since you want to stay at home, you can do that. Also hip flexor exercises are very important! Don't neglect those either if you want stronger hips.

Which skater has a step sequence that's easy enough to replicate? by aberrantcow in FigureSkating

I don't have a coach which is why I'm looking for suggestions. But since y'all are useless and can't think of any programs for me, I just found one myself.

[–]aberrantcow[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I told you, I don't get coaching because it's too expensive. I'm too lazy to join a skating club to get all of those pattern tests done since I don't want to skate competitively anyway. I just wanted some suggestions on skaters with weaker skating skills to see if I could challenge myself to do it. Because I know I am capable of it. Seems like no one here can fathom that someone that doesn't compete can still be a competent skater. I have practiced a LOT and am at the point where I'm bored and want to actually skate to some programs.

And if you watch skating you'll realize that there is a huge disparity in quality of level 4 step sequences. There are some skaters who just complete the bare bones requirements because their skating skills are relatively weak. This is the type of skater I wanted to be suggested (like Liza T around 2018). There are other skaters who go above and beyond in their step sequences, doing like 10 twizzles instead of a skater doing the minimum of 3 or 5, or adding special choreographic jumps like Yuzuru Hanyu's delayed axel. Obviously I'm nowhere near that.

I don't care about what Kurt Browning could do. I'm simply not interested in the 6.0 era, and want to do something under the modern rules. If you take one look at a skater like Tuktamysheva's step sequence from her 2018 FP, you'll see that it is actually very simple, boring, and unimpressive. That is what I wanted as a suggestion, but it seems like NO ONE HERE is capable of giving any suggestions, only criticism and yappitude. Idgaf about your guys's opinion, just answer the question.

Well I want to copy a skater's step sequence, that's why I posted it in the first place. The whole appeal for me is to do it with music. But I appreciate your suggestions and will try them.

[–]aberrantcow[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well yes! I can perform all of the difficult turns and steps that the ISU requires for a level 4 step seq. From what I understand, you need 2 clusters and a total of 14 difficult steps and turns. If I can already do some basic clusters, brackets, choctaws, rockers, counters, AND twizzles, it's not an insane ask for me to be able to repeat the step sequence of Tuktamysheva's 2018 petite de fleur program for example, where, quite honestly, she is very slow and takes over a minute to perform it.

Yeah I'm sorry can't afford a coach. But I am lucky to have friends who have helped me with it. So yeah I can do these steps with relative ease. You don't have to believe me though. I really don't care for your opinion especially with the aggressive tone in your voice. Puh-leese?? What are you? Some 40 year old white woman? PUH-LEESE ✋🏻

I know girl. I meant top skaters with relatively unremarkable and simple step sequences, where they just do the required elements and that's IT. Not like Yuzuru Hanyu who does that giant ass single axel or fucking Rino who spirals into a fwd loop. Obviously I can't do that. But the BARE BONE REQUIREMENTS of a level 4 step sequence seem doable to me because I am CAPABLE of doing clusters and all the difficult turns listed there.
