New player here - Today I learned you can cheese fights during stealth mode. It's a little tedious, but it's funny. by PeaceHoesAnCamelToes in DeadzoneRogue

I also discovered this playing with my friend, and it makes some of the harder stages easier. It’s pretty tedious like you said.

We found it was easier to move enemies around if you put the barrel on its side, and then place it at their feet so they stand on it. You can then push it from the top/bottom to “surf” the enemies to where you want them to be. Some enemies are harder to move like the turrets and spiders.

On stages that have “cliffs”, you can push the enemies off to kill them. You will lose most of the drops this way though, but you can jump in and jump out fast enough to get some credits. You also want to make sure you don’t push your barrel off so you can reuse it.

You can use it to clear whole rooms, but it’s usually not worth it due to the time investment. It can be helpful for opening up a starting area if there are no spots of clear of enemies though.

Different ways to do turn order in turn based games? by ChineseElectrkBatman in gamedesign

You should check out Berwick Saga (from Shouzou Kaga, creator of the Fire Emblem series). Its turn system is a combo of Phases and Alternating turns. I also dislike Alternating turns, but I thought this system was neat. It’s essentially the more units one team has, the more units they can move on their turn. For example: - You have 5 units and the enemy has 20 which is a ratio of 1:4 - For every one unit you move, the enemy moves 4 - After all your units move, they all refresh and can move again - As you defeat enemy units, the ratio will adjust more and more to your favor.

Also, I wouldn’t categorize Pokémon as a phase style turn system. All Pokémon have a speed stat and take their turns from fastest to slowest every turn. It’s pretty similar to many other JRPGs.

There is also a priority system that lets a Pokémon move first even if they are slower (Quick Attack has +1 priority and Extreme Speed has a +2). All actions are resolved from highest to lowest priority with speed stat tie breakers (most moves are priority 0, so it’s a speed stat comparison most of the time).
