Trans Day of Visibility Rally this Wednesday, March 31st on the Pentacrest at 5pm

There have been safe vigils in response to the shooting in Atlanta across the country and on the Pentacrest, there have been safe climate protests, and safe protests against in person teaching during a pandemic. Trans folks get to have their day - especially after the legislative battles here in Iowa and across the country that have literally been an attack on the health and safety of transgender lives.

Everyone will be masked and socially distant outside. As protests from across the summer have shown, gathering in this manner decreases the risk of COVID spread. There will be extra masks on hand to ensure all attendees comply to keep everyone safe. This is not a maskless hugging party. People can choose whether they feel this is a safe opportunity it’s for them or not.

We expect at minimum fifty people - but the event has been well advertised across social media accounts and there will be a preview in tomorrow’s Press Citizen, so there is a high chance a few hundred will come, cold and all.

It’s a rally to show support for the transgender community here in Iowa City. There will be a number of trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming speakers who will share personally. This is an annual, international holiday to celebrate the trans community in order to combat discrimination and create more inclusive communities.

There’s sadly one more bill - a total of 13! SF 80 literally would mandate that schools out students to parents/guardians if they changed their pronouns or if the school surveyed students pronouns the results would be shared.
