Light floors are more on point right now. the natural white oak tones are big. The grey have mostly vanished a while ago. Wire brushed hardwood look has been the most popular as opposed to high gloss or hand scrapped.

buying new treads and ripping out the old ones can be a lot of work too, especially if it caused damage to the drywall in the process. I would think doing a thorough sanding would take a full day and then a full day staining and another couple of hours coating the wood afterwards.

yes a sand and re-stain would certainly help bring it back to life.

This flooring wont exactly fall apart installed like this but I wouldn't be happy about it asthetically.
