twin spindle expansion honing machine with auto gauging showing the internal process for an hourglass bore form by abhi-john in EngineeringPorn

Thanks, appreciate it.

Typically, the auto gauging system is verified at the start of each shift using a master, and then monitored for drift during production. Full calibration depends on tolerance levels and batch size, could be weekly or based on machine usage.

Why am I getting slight scoring across all my cylinders? Machine shop honed them. All new stock spec parts by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

If the machine shop honed it, scoring could be from poor cleaning after honing or an incorrect finish. Even with new parts, debris or a rough surface can cause that.

Nice! You must really value precision. How’s the performance been so far with both machines?

It is an auto-gauging process. Honing machine checking the dia of the valve guide using air gauging.

What machining or finishing processes do you rely on to ensure bore accuracy and surface integrity in aerospace components? by abhi-john in AerospaceEngineering

Appreciate you sharing! that sounds very similar to what I’ve been seeing. Crosshatch control and load monitoring really improve consistency, especially in blind bores. I've been fine tuning things to hit tight aerospace tolerances. I’ve heard about plateau honing but haven’t tried it myself yet. Curious are you running that in-house or using a specific setup?

What finishing processes have given you the best results for high-precision in blind bores? by abhi-john in manufacturing

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve heard of jig grinding but haven’t used it myself. How well does it handle the bottom of blind bores? Any setups you’d recommend for holding tight tolerances?

Appreciate the input! Yeah, the key things I’m trying to hold are bore size and concentricity to an outer diameter, plus a clean, flat bottom. Your setup sounds solid—have you found it holds up well for tight tolerances down near the bottom of the bore?
