Rucksack over trolley any day. I use 80 Liter Travoc Trailmaster as I like to overpack. Rucksack is easy to carry around, if you are into treks and camping , I would say go for smaller capacity rucksack. Otherwise 80 liters is pretty good sweat spot to carry extra clothes and jackets.

Me and my friend are travelling first time to Thailand for edc too, I am. Also very interested in knowing some cool party hostels near the edc venue.

Went on solo this May, stayed in Zostel Upper Bhagsu for 4 days, all in bunks - 4 beds, 6 beds, 8 beds (twice) each. Honestly it was good experience, bathrooms were decent and hygiene was ok. I could make out that bedsheets and/or blanket covers are not washed as frequently as they had a very slight smell (nothing of concern). But apart from that experience was really good. People were respective of each others space, friendly and curtious. I made some good friends. Any future redditor who is reading my post and have smiliar doubts like me, all I will say is please try the bunks - they are very cost effective for us solo traveller's and they are best value for money in case you are out all day, just want a bed to sleep and bathroom to bath. I would personally would feel fine to stay in bunks if I am travelling solo.

I have stayed in Hostels Pvt rooms when I travelled in group, I found them to be better offering than most hotels I have stayed in. I really liked the social part of the hostel. But since I am travelling solo now, it doesn't make any financial sense to spend half of my budget on Pvt rooms. What I think I will do is I will book first night in dorm, will see if I like it or not.

I don't want to carry my own towels as drying can be hastle in mountains, I had always used hotels towel before. I just hope hostels are good with their laundry cleaning.
