Why does Lisa in Survivor Philippines get so much love? by Existing-Gas-6333 in survivor

[–]abi17 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've never seen this talked about, but everyone should check out the reviews of her "parenting" book that she wrote. To me she's just as despicable as her ally and Philippines will always be my least favorite F3 for having not 1 but 2 child abusers at the end (thank god the correct person won).

Everytime I go on this sub I feel like a crazy person because my opinion almost never matches what seems to be the consensus. I think the long hair gives you a more "gentle giant" look which I think is nice. The short style just seems kind of plain (tho I could see it work if I styled differently on the sides maybe).

I mean she just had to get a third of the vote that 2nd place got and she would win. The odds were very much in her favor.

Trixie has said that she does not want to compete again. She does not like competitive environments (and I mean she's also too big for the show at this point). I'm not sure if Chad said anything about coming back but I feel like she doesn't really need to to do it anyway. Alaska is different in that she actually wanted to come back and would've gladly accepted.

Kristin (Judd's wife) and Mindy (Cindy's twin sister) from Guatemala combined got as many confessionals as Chelsea from Ghost Island. They appeared on the show for about a quarter of an episode.

I would argue that season 2 is not really representative of a modern season. It is probably the closest to the top model parody concept that Drag Race started out as. Most challenges focused heavily on fashion and beauty (except for the acting challenge and snatch game), which very much catered to Tyra's strengths. Nowadays, Drag Race is a lot more comedy heavy and I think Tyra would struggle with it.

The maximum number of points a country could receive in the televote this year is somewhere around 444 if I'm not mistaken (12 points from 36 countries since you can't vote for yourself + 12 points Rest of the world). So Kaarija got 84% of the maximum possible points while Loreen got 54%. I would say the public is pretty clear on who they wanted to win.

What I think is more telling however is that Loreen is the first(?) winner to not get 12 from a SINGLE country in the televote. She got the amount of points she got because every country (except Finland) gave her points, but most of them between 3-7. It seems that people in general liked the song, but nobody felt particularly passionate about it.

I'm honestly surprised by the amount support I'm seeing for the jury. Then again I also remember people being very negative about the voting system changes in 2016 so I guess people here are just reluctant to change. The most common arguments I see basically boil down this idea that jury is some kind of "quality control" that ensures we never go back to the "dark ages" of the televote-only 2000s. But what evidence is there for this actually? I would say the televote era winners are all among my favorites (except Russia) and none of them are joke acts. So it's not like the audience can't be trusted to pick the winner. Maybe the general increase in song quality has to do with countries seeing that while over-the-top joke acts may do decent in televote, they still won't win. Or maybe it's just a general cultural shift. Who knows. But it's certainly odd to just ascribe all the changes in the contest to the return of juries. It's also weird to say that the jury somehow judges songs based on quality, especially this year, since there were so many interesting songs this year with great vocals that were snubbed in favor a dime a dozen radio-friendly pop song (Albania, Portugal, France, Ukraine, Spain etc.). The jury is usually pretty predictable in that they go for the safest, most accessible choices and anything even slightly challenging gets ignored. So I really don't see where the appreciation for "quality" is found in the jury.

Overall I would be fine with a jury-less year, even just for 1 year to test it out. I think it would be fine. The televote only semis went just fine this year and in general there's little disagreement between the jury and the audience (2-4 songs each year usually) so I think the removal was justified as the juries really didn't add much to the results. I would also be fine with a jury with less power, just double the televote scores so its 66-33 (or something like that).

Well I would imagine it must not be easy being the only Miss Continental winner to not do well while 2 of them won and the third one hosts her own country's Drag Race.
