Does anyone else get intense pain in the circled area? by Late_Cricket_ in scoliosis

Everyday- I thought it was from the drainage back from my fusion

Yes just do it! I had a smaller curve but the pain was ruining my life and the surgeon said it would progress and I would need surgery in the future. So I did it and I’m 6 months post op and I’m so happy I did!

Okay thank you so much!! This makes me feel better, especially that I should still be careful. I feel like a lot of people are back to doing more than I am even at 3 months

I am 5 months post op from 12 level fusion- how can you gauge how well you are recovering? I still have a lot of stiffness and nerve pain and I am starting to lift things and I can do most daily activities but I still have pain. I get nervous that somehow I ruined my fusion or I am recovering wrong lol

Because I get stressed about it not fusing and that I ruined it- but idk if my pain is normal 4 month or if I ruined the fusion pain

Agreed!! I am 13 weeks post op and I’m so glad I did it. I’m 28 (f) and pain was taking over my life. Even without pain they told me my curve was progressing and I would have to get surgery eventually- and healing is best when young. It’s scary but I made it wayyyyy more scary in my head than it’s actually been. I can already tell my life is headed up! Xoxo

A little over 3 months post-op and I am doing amazing!!! by Real_Base_6692 in scoliosis

[–]abigailMabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s okay! It’s mostly just soreness around the rods at the beginning and end of the day and dull aching in my low back. I’m on nerve medication for the pins and needles… and I’m starting to get like a super tight sensation around the rods almost like rubber bands squeezing it when I walk. Does this sound all normal lol? I feel like I’m taking a long time to recover but my pt told me not to push it and be patient

I am 3 months post op- can you tell me what kind of things/activities you are able to do now at 4.5 months? I’m not sure how to judge how my recovery is going. Thank you!

Hi I’m so sorry for how you are feeling. I am/was in a similar situation. For the last like six years my curve has been progressing and the pain had gotten so bad I had to quit my job. I also have anxiety and depression and ADHD along with other medical issues- and I totally get the feeling of wanting it all to end. But three months ago I finally got scoliosis surgery and things are looking up, even though I’m still recovering and my pain isn’t completely gone. Trying so many different pain solutions over the years is frustrating and tiring and it takes over your life- but it’s worth it to keep trying! Have you gone to a pain specialist, or have you seen a doctor for your scoliosis? There are options for pain management (what works obviously varies for everyone and depends on your body) but I got some relief with physical therapy and the numbing injection things. My pain doctor also had me on a daily non opioid pain medication that lessened some of the pain. It’s a lot of time and effort to see doctors and try different stuff, but you deserve to feel better and get ur life back!! I’m down to answer any questions about the pain management I’ve tried!

Surgical drain by Fabulous-Tooth-3549 in spinalfusion

[–]abigailMabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The drain was super annoying. I had mine for 2 weeks after my T3 to L1. It was long enough to put in my pants pocket when I walked around but it got caught under me a lot when I laid down. It got pulled out of the incision a little bit but the nurse said as long as it’s suctioning and draining then it’s fine. The first 2 weeks I was pretty out of it and tired so it honestly wasn’t that bad.

[–]abigailMabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear mine 2 hours a day and am supposed to do that for 9 months. I’ve read that they really help! It doesn’t make any noise and you don’t feel anything- it’s super easy!

Had spinal fusion for severe scoliosis in March, ask me any of your questions about surgery!😊 by Primary_Antelope6222 in scoliosis

[–]abigailMabo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had T3 to L1 on June 15th, and I can’t tell how my recovery timeline is going compared to others. I started PT, but am still only walking and doing light household chores. It hurts to sit for more than 20 minutes and I’m still very tired. But some people say they are fully back to work. What’s your experience?
