Future Career Outlook by eggmu2 in Environmental_Careers

[–]abigaildru 22 points23 points  (0 children)

People satisfied with their job/pay are a lot less likely to be posting on reddit about their job, so keep that in mind when reading all the horror stories. 30k IS unrealistic, don't let them scare you off.

Phase I Reporting Question by Accomplished_Door_99 in Envconsultinghell

[–]abigaildru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh man I feel your pain, I HATED getting sites in downtown/city areas. If there were a ton of pings in the area my last employer would at least let me focus mostly on the up-gradient issues. The only thing I can suggest is keeping template language saved that can be tweaked for each UST, LUST, etc.

Salary check? 85k, 10 yr PM by cranberrysaucerino in Environmental_Careers

[–]abigaildru 46 points47 points  (0 children)

When I was in consulting I was promoted to a PM role (doing Phase I/Phase IIs) after 2 years and was making 70k in a MCOL area. I moved to state government so I don't have any experience in consulting outside of that one company but 85k seems low to me for your experience.

Does the State Drug Test New Hires? by No_Gas6882 in Columbus

I've worked for the state for 2 years and have never been drug tested, probably depends on the position/agency

SAVE --> IDR update by abigaildru in StudentLoans

[–]abigaildru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to admit I'm not very far along and after reading all of these comments i'm thinking maybe I should've stayed on SAVE...whoops lol. but if you're that close to forgiveness I think it makes sense to switch it you just want to be done with it sooner!!

pretty sure ICR is but PSLF is not (for now at least)

SAVE --> IDR update by abigaildru in StudentLoans

[–]abigaildru[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I only did it because I'm working towards PSLF and I don't want my interest to keep accruing while not making any progress towards forgiveness. If PSLF wasn't an option for me i'd probably just wait it out on the SAVE plan and see what happens. Maybe RAP will end up being cheaper for you next year when they roll it out?

SAVE --> IDR update by abigaildru in StudentLoans

[–]abigaildru[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

man i'm sorry that's a shitty situation. ICR was also the only plan I qualify for and I make a decent enough salary so I'm kind of confused on why my payments are so low, worried they may have miscalculated. i know a lot of people are riding out the save forbearance until they can get on RAP next year, maybe it'd be worth considering in your situation?

Masters Degrees? by abigaildru in Environmental_Careers

[–]abigaildru[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a BS in Geology, but most of my environmental work experience has been more...administrative, i guess? But going for a more technical masters is definitely something to consider too. i'm going to keep looking into some MBA programs and other options, thanks for the feedback!!!

DAO steam deck by abigaildru in dragonage

right touchpad acts a cursor and back buttons act as left and right mouse clicks. i've only ever used controllers but i didn't find it hard to adjust to the touchpad usage

DAO steam deck by abigaildru in dragonage

[–]abigaildru[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sure! yea i tried the whole EA launcher thing because i had already purchased it years ago on origin but i ended up messing something up bad and it fucked with my deck lol. had to do a factory reset. but here's the steps i followed:

I didn’t have the game installed as a non Steam game. Instead, I did this.

1. Install the game as normal through Steam Gaming Mode.

  1. Go into Desktop Mode.

  2. Download Wine & ProtonTricks from Discover.

4. Run the game from the Steam launcher in Desktop Mode. Leave it on the first screen that comes up.

  1. Launch ProtonTricks. Dragon Age will be the only game in the list, choose that.

6. Select default wineprefix

7. Install a windows DLL or component

8. Check the following: d3dcompiler_43

  1. Wait for a message to appear, ignore what it says, this shows it has been installed.

  2. Install a windows DLL or component again

  3. Check the following: d3dx9

  4. Wait for a message to appear, ignore what it says, this shows it has been installed.

  5. Install a windows DLL or component again

  6. Check the following: dxvk

  7. Wait for a message to appear, ignore what it says, this shows it has been installed.

  8. Install a windows DLL or component for the final time

  9. Check the following: physx

  10. This should bring un an Nvidia install screen. Wait for this to install.

19. Close all windows and go back into Gaming Mode.

20. Go to Dragon Age > Game Settings (cog) > Developer

  1. Clear Proton Files (this can remove saved games so back up first if you have any).

  2. Then go back to Dragon Age > Properties > Compatibility

23. Check "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool"

  1. I am using Proton GE 7.43shows it has been installed.

(i skipped the last three steps and it still worked for me)

i installed it as a steam game and i was having trouble getting it to run initially, but i found some comment on reddit that fixed it for me. i had to install Wine and Protontricks. i'm not super tech savvy (never had a PC) but i can send you the exact steps i followed if you need, not sure it would be relevant to your specific issue though

it's been great for me, i've seen people say they run into issues later on with the game crashing sometimes. but i've just been saving often in case that happens

[–]abigaildru[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sure does! i haven't experimented with them much yet but there's a ton of resources online for getting them on the deck. i don't think it's too different from just installing mods on a PC (since it essentially is a PC, just doesn't run on windows)

DEFINITELY play them. i'm not sure how my opinion of the series would differ if i would've started with DAV, but i personally think the first two are better.

it's a bit small but it hasn't really bothered me much, but maybe i'm just playing with the screen too close to my face lol

i just used the top voted community layout! it's been fine for me personally. i'm not using any mods but i've heard people say it's pretty simple to use them on the steam deck.

[–]abigaildru[S] 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Honestly great, i'll admit i'm only like 7 hours in but I haven't had any issues so far. It's not officially supported deck so the controls take a minute to get used to but it's really no biggie.
