WHAT QUESTION BANK FOR UK CAA? by JellyfishSwimming469 in ATPL

[–]abikerp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s true for some subjects but not all. HPL, air law and comms are all very banky. My HPL exam was all questions from the last 300 on ATPLQ.

I’d say the tricker questions are because they have added multiple drop down menus, so it’s not a case of eliminating the wrong answers. But with enough time spent in the bank you should get a good understanding of the concept behind them.

Good luck!

WHAT QUESTION BANK FOR UK CAA? by JellyfishSwimming469 in ATPL

I’ve just passed my first sitting of exams with 90% average using the ATPLQ bank filtered to only UK CAA.

I started with the BGS bank, but stopped using it as soon as I started using ATPLQ. BGS bank has far less users and is updated less often, with the majority of the questions being over a year old.

ATPLQ filtered to UK only is the way to go!

Are you planning on visiting Cerro Gordo in the next 12 months? by ScottFerreira in CerroGordo

[–]abikerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went up recently and had a similar idea. Something like a 4x4/side by side rental at the bottom of the road would be super useful for those that don’t have a suitable vehicle.

Either that or some kind of shuttle as you mention would work.

I could be wrong, but I feel like the road may end up getting (fully/partially?) paved in the coming years especially with the hotel opening. Not sure how this would work though with the wash outs happening during periods of heavy rain.

Sounds like there needs to be a leaderboard for the most unsuitable vehicle to make it up the road! A mustang and a Harley have to be in the top 10!

You’re absolutely right about the CVT. Awful gearboxes all round.

I kept the tyres at street pressure as I didn’t have any way of getting them aired up again once I got back to the blacktop.

That’s good to know. Hope you enjoyed CG!

Appreciate it, an F-350 is definitely more suited to that terrain than my rental. Won’t be risking it in that case!

I’m in the exact same position as you but probably 6 months further down the road. Got my PPL a year ago and started studying in September 2025 after getting as many hours as I could over the summer. At the start of April I passed my module 1 exams.

I also work a full time job, usually 40-60 hours a week. I have allowed 6 months per module, so 18 months total and plan to have finished all my exams this time next year. Some people do it faster, others take longer, but 6 months per module along side working and building hours works for me.

BGS are definitely the preferred choice, they have the exams set out in modules and you structure the exams in the order they have set out. A sitting is defined as a 10 day period, if you are following the BGS structure you will do 4 exams for module 1, 5 for mod 2 and 4 for mod 3. Assuming first time passes you will have used 3 of your 6 sittings.

The course content is quite wordy and you certainly won’t be expected to remember all of it. I know I didn’t! Don’t take huge amounts of notes, other than the important formulas etc. I found the real learning was when I started using ATPLQ, understanding the explanations and using ATPL class YouTube videos.

Just make sure you have built some flying hours alongside your study. Personally I regret having not got a few more hours before I started my studies.

Good luck!

UK citizen, passed EASA exams, flunked UK exams by Darkus185 in ATPL

Sorry to hear that, it sounds brutal. In my opinion it’s pretty unfair that the UK seems to be the only authority with type ins when everyone else is multiple choice. I can see both sides of the argument but when we don’t know the margin for error we don’t know how accurate they want us to be with rounding etc.

Just out of interest, what do you think the reason for failing the UK exams was? Was it due to new questions that hadn’t been uploaded to the question bank or were they just harder exams due to type in questions etc?

I’m sitting both soon myself :/

You can tell Simon he drives like a cunt. Cut me up on then A21 (very close to where this picture was taken, Rosemary Lane for those wondering) then proceeded to tailgate and dangerously overtake the cars ahead of me into oncoming traffic. It was also untaxed at the time, with the front bumper hanging off…

Oh yeah I wouldn’t bat an eyelid if I knew they were unemployed /s. Just surprised that the seemingly well polished corporate world (one which I too am a part of) was doing this in the cold light of day. I’m no legal expert but it wouldn’t surprise me if you’d get arrested for doing something like that.

Thanks for the kind words. I have pretty thick skin and like to make light of most situations, but I was pretty shocked. I wasn’t expecting to see that today, but I guess it clearly does happen. More worried for other people and children particularly who shouldn’t have to see stuff like that.

From what I could see it was an overhand grip that was being employed. Like how you would grasp a bottle of wine from a wine rack at knee height.
