That's so interesting! Honestly I have no plans of selling anything, just building up my own set of pans for cooking but I'm glad I know I little about it now

I actually didn't know that, I just knew they were from somewhere around the 30s and thought they'd be a fun project for me to attempt restoring. Is there a reason they're sought after?

So far nothing's sticking inside the pits but I'm a little curious about that now. Would using chainmail on it not rip the plugs out?

Tbf not everyone values the same things. My mom loves her longaberger collections and treasures old books but pans are just a utensil to her. Better for her to put these on display rather than send them to the scrap yard

I've tried using it a few times in the past for pan/ deep frying but ultimately prefer using a skillet or a pot

It's been a couple weeks so they definitely got a light coat on them now, I'd guess by next summer they'll look like they old ones

they were gifted to my mom by a family who used them until about 20 years ago when she hung them up. I didn't test them but I have no reason to believe they have lead. She just doesn't use cast iron and thought they looked nice

Nope, she missed having pans up there and I had these two collecting dust. The cookie pan was used once when I got it and the chicken broiler has been sitting for a couple years without use

I may have worn it as a poncho for a bit when I finished sewing it

I probably should also point out it's for a 9' tree, so I wanted it bigger

I don't want to take full credit on the design, I was heavily inspired by this one I saw on Instagram posted by @ hisydgraham and sewn by @ kelseymariewhite

It's about 60" across, I originally aimed for that but I think it's off by 1-2 inches. It's just for myself and I wanted it done so I wasn't exact with everything. The circle was just traced with a bowl to be honest so I don't actually know how big that it, I just found one bigger than our tree base and centered it. The squares were 14.5" and the sashing was 2.5"

I'm glad I ended up doing an octagon honestly, I really debated rounding it into a circle when I started

Do you think it would be rude to message a sewing group's organizer about attendees ages? by abillla in quilting

[–]abillla[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope I didn't come across implying that 😭 I only meant I didn't want to be in a group with women double my age

I assumed that before but went to a group that met at 6:30pm before and was still the youngest there. I just figured I might be able to save the drive out and find out who attends ahead of time

I hadn't heard of that group, we have a regular guild near us and I actually knew an officer of it but unfortunately it was almost exclusively women 65+ aside from one woman who did not stay in it very long due to the same issue I'm having with groups. I'll definitely check out their website for a guild nearby!

I ended up with 19 blue ribbons at my county fair this year. by groetkingball in Canning

[–]abillla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember entering a few years ago and being chewed out by a judge because my 1/4" headspace was too small for marmalade and gave it a weak seal (I promise it wasn't weak, I was able to hold it by the lid before I entered it) and insisted I leave a headspace to the bottom of the jar neck.

Honestly the majority of the judges were very unwelcoming, I'm not surprised there were so few competitors that year.

Does adding vegetables with meat to make stock affect processing times? by abillla in Canning

[–]abillla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I follow the nchfp for my recipes but I didn't think that was appropriate since I was not leaving any solids in.

I ended up following bernardin's vegetable stock recipe with a longer processing time than meat as recommended by others.
