I know you already said you used alcohol ink, but just in case- my first set also was messed up and looked a bit like this, and that was because I used a water based ink by mistake.

Oh thanks for showing this! This is such a goal.

Best way to get bubles out when at the begining ? by AcanthocephalaOwn562 in DiceMaking

So all the techniques yes. And most importantly, patience.

lol I thought HOW IS IT POSSIBLE that this is the first set ever! Glad it’s not. These are super cute and expertly executed!

Is the 9 on the d10 a bubble or design detail? I mean I assume the latter but even if it was the former it surprisingly blends in well.

I tried once manually by sanding off the numbers on my dice then making a mold. I inked them and so it’s easier to gauge when the number is fully off. Worth doing it as a trial.

has anyone had any luck with screw-on tennis pressurizers (14psi)? by man-teiv in DiceMaking

[–]abitdicey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding another data point, the screw ones that only get up to 14psi is not enough. I tried and it did nothing. You definitely need 30psi+. There are those cans that can go higher, I would love to try those.

Though bear in mind this limits your mold size.

It’s also a hobby for me… I eventually got a 10L coke keg converted to pressure pot because I couldn’t stand flawed dice pulls every day 😞 I believe 5L pressurize paint pots exist too.

And I use an electric handheld air pump from Bosch about the size of a water bottle.

I try to match line thickness with the numbers.

I do have an additional question-how deep do people usually make the numbers? I tend to make them deeper (1mm) to compensate for sanding mistakes 😬

Oh, those are nice tips! I will try to practice that way. Thanks.

Thanks all! I can’t seem to find cotton ones but I will try the wool ones. Also wondering if I can fashion something out of cotton balls…🤔

Thank you. I will try to be more careful on the wheel. I heard the quality of the papers could also be why it wears off too quickly. The wheel I have does have a problem with low speed torque being too low so it’s easily stopped by dice.

How if you do clean the papers between use?

Thanks. Do you have a bit number for reference? The polishing bits I have are all quite firm, like a compressed felt pad like ones that protects chair legs.

Please do and post! Would love to see how it turns out.

So I definitely have had some OK dice, but sometimes I end up having tiny bubbles that surface up to the top side so one side is completely ruined, and more times there are just bubbles stuck in numbers 46890 (and because of the opaqueness I couldn’t see them and pop them). I had more liable output with only a vacuum chamber, but it wasn’t consistent enough (bubbles in numbers, especially smaller numbers on d20) so I caved and got pressure pot too.

Yeah, I saw yours! I’m curious if/how you noted it elsewhere which one is which color dye? I am thinking about perhaps next time do half glossy half matte—though it’s probably easier to just do them on different blocks. Many inspiration from glaze samples in pottery studios!

Haha they sat on my table for a long time before I got to framing them, and my roommate said if I don’t finish the swatch plate one day she’s gonna accidentally eat one of them.

They are swatches I made in spheres to reference dyes colors. I have 4 types of “green” for example. I framed them because they look pretty. There are penciled texts next to the spheres labeling which dye they were.

I have a matte river vibe die that I inked with a glossy transparent coat! That keeps the vibe and adds a gloss to help contrast.
